I won't stand for our precious wild places to go unstewarded. Our national parks are more than just scenic landscapes; they are vital ecosystems that sustain wildlife and provide invaluable opportunities for recreation and reflection.

I recognize that there are "fires" everywhere with our change in leadership. What can we do? We can choose 1-2 issues that are central to our core and be a voice and stand up against this ruthless slashing.

This is my issue.

5,000 dedicated individuals, many of whom have devoted years to protecting our national parks, were abruptly terminated last week. These aren't just numbers; they're families facing financial hardship. Many of these individuals possess unique skills essential for effective land stewardship.

Cutting Public Lands Workforce Will Have Consequences for Outdoor Recreation — Outdoor Alliance Following years of decline in staffing, the new administration is implementing immediate staffing cuts, which will hurt outdoor recreation access and experiences.

6 years ago this week, I was in NYC for a photography conference in Midtown. Pre-COVID on a random Tuesday morning made for the perfect opportunity to visit Rockefeller Plaza and be part of the small crowd gathered for the Today Show. Freezing! But surreal:

Spring will come again. And you'll be ready.
If you cannot see the light around you, become it.
Pad yourself with the gifts of warmth: connection and productivity.
Turn within and nurture yourself.
Create. Produce. Become.

Are you frozen in place?
They want us to react.
Pelting us with fear-mongering tactics.
Doom scroll until our eyes are weary and our souls heavy.
Our connection spaces (here), tainted with the stuff.
Anticipated darkness.
Winter is indeed here.

The horrors persist but so does my starter.

I know this sounds weak, I know it.

But kindness is one of the few things we carry that can make a difference for each other.

We can’t undo all this hate, but we can still make life a little easier for others.

....and the cultures (that aren’t mine) that I dig in to examine.

I’ve not ever had a home studio quite like this. And I’m so thrilled that I do now in this stage of life that is characterized by high productivity and deep self reflection.

In front of me is an open space with moving fixtures for portraits, still life work, or whatever calls to be photographed or videoed. A great example is the mug I’m holding in my hand: a bespoke piece by @babycreep.bsky.social that emulates a rainbow sugar skull — a favored motif of mine...

Studio in 2025.

This place is an accumulation of beautiful things that inspire, provoke thought and further examination. The light in here is pure and fresh in the morning and neon and moody after the sun dips — the ideal duality for my creation process.
