To me, that’s exactly what this is about.
The world is ideologically sinking, and we have to hold on to the hope that dawn (justice, freedom, and democracy) will prevail.

If MAGA wants to revive 19th-century gunboat diplomacy, they’re going to discover very quickly that 21st-century tech makes that a lot more dangerous for them than it used to be.

Just look at the Russian casualty figures in Ukraine.

The world has changed. Cheap drones, asymmetric warfare, and regional powers with actual capabilities mean the US can’t just swagger into someone’s backyard and expect another 1980s outcome.

Trouble is, while America is still powerful, it’s no longer so far ahead technologically or militarily that Trump can behave like this without consequences. Plus all the educated innovators either hate his regime or have left already.

And Venezuela already sells its oil on the global market, so stealing it doesn’t magically increase supply, it just changes who gets paid. That’s the whole point for him. He wants the world to return to the gunboat diplomacy of the 18th hundreds. Because that was simple and macho in his mind.

It’s not really about oil, it’s about dominance.
