Persons Day is this week and we now honour the women who fought to be recognized as “persons” under the law. They knew that without a voice in decision-making, women’s lives and labour would always be undervalued.

More than 60% of women are min wage earners. If she’s lucky to work a full time 40 hour a week job, before taxes, she is trying to live off $31,200 a year.

Alberta has the lowest minimum wage in all of Canada. Inflation is going up while wages do not.

The UCP must increase minimum wage.

On this day, we recognize that everyone deserves the ability to make decisions for their own body and future, free from stigma and free from barriers.

Femicide, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence continue to devastate families.

On Sept 27th at 12 PM, join me at the Calgary Courthouse for the Voices Against Violence rally.

This isn’t leadership, it isn’t freedom, and it tramples democracy.

Albertans are compassionate. We look out for each other. And we will fight like hell to make sure no child is forced to prove their humanity to politicians.

Women and gender-diverse people know what it feels like to have governments decide whose rights count and whose don’t. Now Danielle Smith wants to use the notwithstanding clause to lock trans kids and their families out of the courts altogether.
