This fuzzy old shot surfaced the other day. Gosh do I look young & optimistic. That's the Sahara in Egypt & I first cast my leg over a motorcycle 3 months & 2 weeks before.

'Into Africa' is full of the drama, the surprises, the risky bits (there were a 'few') & the laughter. Africa is a continent full of incredible riding & fun.

One of the things I loved about riding through Africa was seeing how the kids made their own, quite brilliant toys, out of scrap. The front wheels on these, for example, were steered!

1996 This is my partner Birgit on the road from the Caprivi Strip in Namibia to the Okavango Delta in Botswana. She's on a 1972 BMW R60/5. Just minutes before we'd been engines just ticking while waiting to see what a herd of elephants on the road would do.
