On Presidents Day, we honor the leaders who shaped this nation and understood that public office is a responsibility, not a reward. The strongest presidents knew the rule of law must apply to everyone and that the Constitution comes first. That standard should guide us not only today, but every day.

Business owners, public health providers, and community leaders came together at Salon Madrid in Commerce City to collaborate on building a better future for Colorado. Honored to be there and speak with everyone who came out to this great event.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the history, resilience, and leadership of the Black community. The contributions of Black Coloradans have strengthened our state in countless ways, and I’m proud to recognize that legacy today and always.

I met with community members in Durango because of their concerns about the recent actions by ICE in their community. We covered the role of ICE, their legal authority, the protections and rights of immigrants, how to protest safely, and the authority of local law enforcement and state prosecutors.

It is great to be back in La Plata County. Given some of the recent incidents here with ICE, I led an important discussion about the role of ICE, legal protections for immigrants, First Amendment rights of protestors, and local law enforcement’s authority in these situations.

When it comes to the Attorney General, courtroom experience matters. I fell in love with the rule of law through 28 years in the courtroom, holding violent offenders accountable, protecting victims, and keeping communities safe.

After 28 years in court, this isn’t a phase. It’s experience.

January 6 was a violent assault on our democracy and the rule of law. As Attorney General, my responsibility is clear: defend the Constitution, enforce the law without fear or favor, and hold accountable anyone who threatens our democratic system.

One of the most meaningful parts of this work is meeting people from communities across Colorado and hearing directly about what matters most to them. Those perspectives shape how I approach this work and the responsibility of serving the entire state.

Prosecuting violent crime, handling complex cases, and upholding the rule of law is serious work. I have spent my career across Colorado handling the most serious cases our system faces. Colorado deserves an attorney general with courtroom experience and a proven record of enforcing the law.

Honored to have served as the keynote speaker for El Comité de Longmont’s 45th Anniversary Celebration. Immigrants are not just part of our community; they are a part of this country’s past, present, and future. As Colorado’s next AG, I will continue to stand up for the rights of all Coloradans.

Grateful for conversations like this. Listening and engaging directly with people across Colorado is how trust is built, and as Colorado’s next Attorney General, that same approach will guide this work.
