A mishmash: Middle East stuff, development stuff, organizational dysfunction, crisis response, carbon transition dynamics, silly sports things. Mostly here to read smarter people than me.

2025 Cleveland Browns Cap Table The Cleveland Browns 2025 salary cap table, including team cap space, dead cap figures, and complete breakdowns of player cap hits, salaries, and bonuses.

Sorry, 8 QBs. This is true BTW. Gabriel, Sanders, Watson, Zappe, Flacco, Pickett, Thompson-Robinson, and Jameis Winston

(Browns GM) Last year we had 9 QBs on the payroll and now we only have 4. Schneider's on the phone. I'm thinking we get Drew Lock for two firsts, or maybe Jalen Milroe for a first and a third. Maybe both.

Y Combinator startup pitch: imagine solar panels that also store carbon, prevent erosion, provide wildlife habitat, supply building materials, and can replicate themselves. Today, you don't have to imagine anymore (sizzle reel with bad music starts playing)

Oh man Queen of Mars is on Youtube. If you don't know what to do today you should watch this

Plotwise it's a bit of a mess but it's pretty fun and says a lot about how the USSR saw itself then. Plus if I remember right the rocket is powered via wood stove although I might be getting my silent films mixed up

OK if you can find it, watch Aelita Queen of Mars. 1924 silent film where some Soviets fly a rocket to Mars, one of them falls in love with the queen, but the others teach the Martian slaves about communism and form the Martian SSR. Love triangles and great Martian costumes.

Not to flatter you but you're a good writer. Lots of people who write 3K word essays, not only will I not read it but I'll be reluctant to read the same author writing a 1K word essay. I'm plowing through some research papers right now and so many people are a) brilliant and b) can't write for shit

I've managed to find some peace, but every now and then some kid asks me how many times did I center someone's lived experience and I know I'm going to have nightmares that night

Yep. Morally upstanding man of integrity in a bar full of people playing the odds, including his wife, so there's an inherent awkwardness to the situation to say the least

I thought the guy playing Laszlo was pretty stiff but otherwise it's just about perfect. The fact they pack so much so neatly into just over an hour and a half is seriously impressive.

Note that this (and the forced evacuation of the entire south) is supposedly in response to one rocket attack by Hezbollah that did zero damage, and also that everyone from Yair Lapid to Mike Huckabee is cheering the idea of Israel conquering more territory. Absolutely barbaric.

Trump as foodie, watching old Anthony Bourdain episodes to decide whether our next failed war should be Pakistan or Peru

The truth is there are no barbaric societies, just people all over the world trying the best they can. But some people are evil and weak and if your society has put one of them in power twice, you might need to rethink some things

05.03.2026 15:33 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Point of clarification: when he says "this is a barbaric society" who's he talking about? The one with the child rapist president canceling aid programs and bombing schools, or the other one?

Right, but I have to agree with the man that bad things happen when crazy people have nukes. Trump of course being exhibit A

Chotiner: You've got killer taste in music?

Me: oh yeah. To be honest I think I have a lot to teach the younger generation. All kinds of cool stuff they haven't heard.

C: ok but it looks like you haven't bought a record since the Obama years and your own kids know more about music than you.

After each failed US war we get an influx of ethnic restaurants run by former officers in the losing army so I look forward to a surge of Iranian restaurants in 10 years or so

I've heard mostly about aerosols but also that they could harm the ozone layer. I've occasionally heard chalk dust (calcite) discussed which supposedly is better for ozone and also more reflective. Any thoughts as to which material is preferred and why

Dude just reacts under stress. People were saying this war could go a longtime so he responds nu uh. Then Rubio says we're running out of interceptors so he says nu uh. He admitted he blew up his own exit strategy but pitched that colossal fuckup as a huge success. The guy's a walking reflex arc

Some takeaways:

1. Trump probably thinks American oil companies will cash in and he's probably right
2. He probably also thinks American prices won't go up and he's wrong
3. Asian countries should push green energy harder
4. Asian countries should never trust trump again on anything
