Best film I've seen so far is The Boys and the Bees, a ten minute short that encompasses everything Terence Malick has ever done & then some. I bailed on Simmons relatively late. The last I read was his Sherlock Holmes novel, which has a hilarious section where Henry James picks apart the Holmes stories. But, yeah. Don't get me started on the book where he rehabilitates Gutzon Borglund, the KKK's favorite sculptor.

Reading a novelette by Connie Willis that asserts as fact multiple times that All About Eve was Marilyn Monroe's screen debut and it's making my left eye twitch. It was her 11th film. Hell, The Asphalt Jungle was a more substantial role five months earlier. I don't know if I can get past this.

I used to be a huge fan but I bounced off a bunch of his later books because he decided he didn't need to hide all his exhaustive (exhausting) research. Kinda like I bounce off, say, the dissertation on sewers in Les Miserables. The ideological rot was just the mayo on a shit sandwich in the end.

One of the first things I did when Microsoft Word first started offering suggestions for grammar back in the before times was to put the first paragraph of The Haunting of Hill House through it, taking each suggestion. It drained the life out of it.
