Call for Papers: This joint event hosted by SocRel and @bsa-medsoc.bsky.social is an opportunity for shared learning between the two study groups and will be the first event of its kind. In coming together we hope to share experiences, research findings, and explore areas of mutual interest

The BSA Events staff have been made aware and we hope to have a resolution for you soon. As a consequence of this disruption the deadline will be extended to Tuesday the 24th of February, in order to ensure that these issues are resolved and no scholars are disadvantaged by them.

We have been made aware that some people are experiencing technical difficulties when attempting to submit their abstracts via the @bsaecf.bsky.social portal, in that the “submit abstract” button is not showing up.

BSA Socrel Conference, the theme is healing and harms

The theme for our 2026 conference is 'Healing and Harms'. We invite papers that explore these ostensibly opposing dynamics, highlighting, challenging and complexifying religion, non-religion and spirituality’s role(s) in both healing and harm, in their myriad forms, and across diverse contexts.

Her first monograph is Women Priests, Symbolic Violence and Symbolic Resistance, published by Routledge. Sharon teaches across several subjects including religion and politics, sociology of religion, and religion, peace and conflict.

Introducing Dr Sharon Jagger, one of our new Co-Convenors. Sharon is Associate Professor of Religion at York St. John University. Her research interests include gender, sexuality & class in relation to religion & she is currently studying the politics of witches & women with a goddess spirituality.
