The Jain Lab did its first radioactive methylation assay last week and it worked! My students did balk at the "old" scintillation counter and dot matrix printer, but to me it was like coming home. #tritium #methylation #newPI

I went to the Minnesota State Fair today with the lab. Finally, I see what all the fuss was about! A fun summer afternoon indeed (and lots of fried food)!

Any advice for lab meeting formats for a new lab (i.e. 4 people, 8 months in)? I feel like weekly data presentation meetings are a bit too much for right now, but then don't know what else to do other than journal clubs. I already have individual meetings with my people.

The Jain Lab purified its first protein today! This feels like such a milestone and I’m incredibly grateful to benefit from the years of wisdom and training I received from folks along the way. My lab manager did an excellent job here! #NewPI

New PIs: when do you find time to read papers? Asking for a friend.

One day, people sending me emails (especially sales reps) will realize that Jain is my last name, not my first name. Even after I correct them... so many "Dear Jain" emails 🫠

#ASBMB25 was just what I needed. I gave a talk (first conference talk as a PI), saw even more amazing science from colleagues, and made some great connections! Now time to get back to the lab and get cracking on all these new ideas!
