My current impression is that city pop is a confluence of disco culture coming a decade lagged to Asia combined with synthesizers and pop music of the time. IG term is confined to JP because it was a marketing term in their market and the recent popularity has confined the entire sound to JP?

I'm trying to figure out if City Pop is really just a Japanese thing or not. BC I've definitely heard Filipino city pop, and I'm pretty sure I've heard Indonesian and Vietnamese songs that sounded like city pop.
