I decided to prioritise what the card signify over following the iconography, though I am trying to do both when I can (cf fool, x of wands, hermit, emperor, hierophant) and this scene scream judgement to me.

I think it’s just sometimes people need to know the happy ending is available to get through the sad bits but they perhaps could have worded it a little more thoughtfully!

Anyway, there were string lights and gifts for everybody and food for at least 20. What more did Lucius want from him? “Some garland wouldn’t go amiss,” he teased. Oluwande and Jim came next, with Roach right behind carrying an enormous cake. John and Frenchie arrived laden with musical instruments, with Buttons, The Swede, and Pete bringing up the rear. The sparse apartment was suddenly full of life, full of friends. Stede had never felt so at home.

It tells people that the opinions of billionaires supersede everyone's human rights. It tells people they have no rights unless they can pay a plethora of barristers. It reminds girls that their bodies are ideological battleground and they have no say.

The strange expression, Izzy finally caught on to what it was - sympathy. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Izzy said, his arms crossing across his chest in defiance. Lucius rolled his eyes and gestured inside. Through the glass doors of the patio, the room looked golden and bright with Ed and Stede in the centre of the dancefloor, laughing in each other’s arms as the music played on. “Izzy. Babe. I am an incredibly observant hyper-vigilant bitch with a heightened romantic radar. So… have you ever told him?” Lucius was staring at him, his gaze pinched and determined. There was complete sincerity in his eyes. How had this kid Izzy barely knew figured out something Ed hadn’t noticed in 20 years?
