the infected have a few symptoms, most of them being invisible to others. the most noticeable symptom is the change in eye color.
Boneyard Dusty is infected, also known as being โhalf undead.โ as seen in Dusty, her eyes changed from ocean blue to a glowing turquoise color.
the eye color changes on a case-by-case basis, but one aspect that stays constant in all cases is the glowing of the irises.
other symptoms include the indefinite blackening of internal organs and darkened or blackened blood.
most infected have stopped seeing medical professionals as it would out them as undead. they see underground medics or none at all.

that being said, being a zombie is a condition that is only applicable to humans that are already deceased. however, zombies can still infect the living with a permanent disease, usually transmitted through a bite.
the infected are shunned from the greater society and left to isolation in most cases.
โundeadโ is an adjective used to describe both the zombies and the infected. if you are referred to as โundead,โ this is a grave (pun not intended) insult.
