Noget der slår mig ved Italien, hvor jeg netop har været på ferie, er, at de nærmest ikke har det elendige bundniveau, som vi har i Danmark. Selv turistfælderne dernede laver ok mad.

The EPA's reasoning to justify repealing greenhouse gas regulations for power plants is so tortured, I feel like my brain has been waterboarded after reading it 🤯

The justification goes like this...🧵(1/8)

How the Political Theory of the IRA Broke Down Investing in red states doesn’t make defying Trump any safer.

We will see what happens in the Senate, but this @zeitlin.bsky.social piece is a good summary of how the IRA's political vision -- that clean energy investment in Repub districts would keep Republicans from repealing tax credits-- seems to have failed.

FYI the arson rate in Canada is generally down from two decades ago... [in case you see people blaming increasing wildfire burn area on arson].

Wow! Huge power outage in Spain/Portugal. Just managed to pull this from the Spanish grid operator's website before it timed out. Demand cratered from 25GW to less than 10GW in an instant. 🔌💡

“The EV is expected to go into production in 2027 with a starting price of 20,000 euros”

I bought an eUp in December 2013 - why does 14 years have to pass before a similar EV is made by VW?!?

(I know. Profits are bigger, the bigger cars.)

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between January and April by looking at the decadal average line positions.

In the next few days, I will be sharing some of our work that I am most proud of from my time at NOAA/GFDL. But I would also like a little normalcy today on my feed, so here's my go-to sea ice data viz update.

#Arctic sea ice extent still remains the *lowest* on record for the date (JAXA). Not good

Last Tuesday, I was set to give a talk on 'climate change in the Northeast' at a retirement home but had to cancel due to hourly job threats.

After nearly two weeks of overwhelming uncertainty, today it happened. I was fired from my dream of working at NOAA. I'm so sorry to everyone also affected.

France reduces VAT to 5.5% for solar up to 9 kW The French Senate has approved France's 2025 Budget Law, cutting the value-added tax (VAT) to 5.5% for PV systems up to 9 kW from October 2025. Industry professionals say the delay might prompt homeowners to postpone installations to secure the lower rate.

Spotted this in the middle of @carbonbrief.org's summary yesterday of China's green bond debut - China is taking note of millennia-long patterns of rainfall and political upheaval. As an archaeologist, I'm glad to see consideration of these data.
