I'm determined to make this account just for dumb jokes. I will engage with reality in the real world. This space is for bits.

Yeah, as a Cub fan that would normally enjoy a nice Wisconsin football season as a palate cleanse, the Packers are load-bearing for me now.

Sending strength and vibes ✊

Was watching the broadcast last night and heard the organist play Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" after the last out in the ninth. This is how I feel after Malârt 🀝

Congrats to Roman Anthony on his eventual trade to the Dodgers. And congrats to the Red Sox on that future "financial flexibility"!

Ryne Sandberg Taught Me to Try Being a try-hard is one thing; but there's nothing wrong with just trying. How Ryne Sandberg taught me about hope, self-respect, and why trying is all we really can do.

Okay, all that turned into this:
www.patrickwritesgood.com/blog/ryne-sa...

I guess I decided to try. Thanks #ryno.

A signed baseball bearing the inscription: "Ryne Sandberg 23 HOF 05", referring to Sandberg's jersey number and Hall of Fame induction class.

You try because it's right. You try because there is dignity and integrity in the act of your labor.

I'm not a memorabilia person. But I do have a signed Ryno ball (thanks, Mom!). I'll be moving it to my desk.

Right now, a lot of us are being driven to not want to try; a kind of nihilism at the heart ofβ€”well...everything.

I'm grateful for a reminder that trying isn't important because there is an outcome to win or because you need to be productive in the eyes of capital. It's a moral choice...

I can't say that Ryne Sandberg alone is the reason I take effort and commitment very seriously in my work and in my personal life. But whether I realized it then or not, he was an example for me.

From Sandberg's HOF induction speech:
"The reason I am here, they tell me, is that I played the game a certain way, that I played the game the way it was supposed to be played. I don’t know about that, but I do know this: I had too much respect for the game to play it any other way.”

I wrote a college entrance essay about how being a Cub fan whose faith in the team wasn't about the expectation of World Series salvation, but just playing the game and trying and believing because that's all you can do. Losing isn't good, but there's value in it when you've tried your best.

From Jon Greenberg's article in @theathletic.com:
"For all that was wrong with the Cubs over the years, Sandberg, like Ernie Banks, Billy Williams and Fergie Jenkins before him, was all that was right..."

That crowd didn't have a lot to get excited about in 1992 (and they didn't know they would lose Greg Maddux to Atlanta at the end of the season).

Greenberg: Ryne Sandberg, the MVP of the '84 Cubs, will live forever at Wrigley Field

One of my earliest memories is being at Wrigley Field at age 5. Ryne Sandberg hit a home run in the first inning. I cringed at how loud the crowd was (which might say more about me than about the crowd's response tbh).

I say this all as someone who LIKES Prodigy and has a good time with Star Wars.

But it's mostly kids stuff. And the best of DS9 made me think dark thoughts at night like Andor does.

She's just describing clinical depression. And the reason so many vaxxed people have it isn't because of the vaccine, it's because they realized during the pandemic how many people there are like her out there.
