Clara and Wesley are both hard on themselves. For Clara, she often discredits herself early instead of taking risks, but she gets more confidence later.

Meanwhile, Wesley pushes his limits and endangers himself to avoid troubling others. He gets better about this too.

I love a slow burn, though my current WIP has some pretty fast initial feelings that take a while to act on. Writing a gradual buildup of trust and connection between characters is satisfying for me.

Clara has mostly lost her faith, as it's been the source of her suffering. But, she still has every teaching memorized and sometimes prays; she doesn't believe in the sect, but is still attached to the First Maiden and hopes Her true nature is more benevolent.

Plans are still rough, but:

Clara was raised in an extremist sect of one of the world's dominant religions. They worship the First Maiden, who did exist but isn't present now. There are other gods that predate the First Maiden, and they are the focus of other religions.

Clara is fond of Wesley's scars and muscles, his shy smiles and soft voice. She loves ruffling his fluffy hair too.

Wesley adores Clara's freckles, fiery hair, and sleek figure. He's a werewolf, so he also likes her scent.

And they both love each other's eyes.

Clara locks herself in her room to wither away in peace. Usually she's stoic, but might let some grumpiness slip through.

Wesley rarely gets sick. When it happens, he usually tries to hide it. If he's forced to rest, he'll bury himself in blankets while making sad puppy eyes.

Clara used to have brighter dreams, but now she's resigned to her fate and tries not to think too much about the future. She'll cling to any good days in the meantime.

Wesley has overthought it, through a variety of best and worst-case scenarios, and everything in between.
