The smokefree generation is VERY nearly law. A resounding vote in the House of Lords in favour. The UK will shortly become the first country in Europe to phase out the sale of tobacco to the next generation. Quite a moment.

With just under a year to go until the smokefree generation takes effect, ASH CEO @hazelcheeseman.bsky.social has written to retailers to discuss what the policy means for businesses and highlight the long-term benefits of the policy for retailers and for children’s health.

Retailers themselves support the policy, and @hazelcheeseman.bsky.social has emphasised that the policy is straightforward and workable 🛒

The policy only requires an update to age-of-sale signage and routine ID checks against a fixed date of birth, making checks simple for retailers 🚭

Wales has spoken with a resounding YES vote for a smokefree future🚭

Huge congratulations to former Chief Executive of ASH Deborah Arnott for winning the @btsrespiratory.bsky.social President's Medal last night.

As BTS said, Deborah has worked tirelessly for more than twenty years to reduce the harm caused by tobacco, and this award is very well deserved!
