A photo looking east of the bow river pathway alongside the zoo. You can see the river water has flooded onto the pathway, making it very risky to try and ride through in the cold weather.

Heads up #yycbike, the pathway around the zoo has flooded due to the river ice jamming. St. George’s drive pathways would be the detour to use.

Morning update #yycbike. Trace snow covering the pathways, 311's did the trick yesterday and the drifts were cleared up. East Village was cleared yesterday afternoon too.

Just passing on what I've been told, apparently a very eager newish engineer at the city worked on this. You may appreciate their other work in all the signage along 7th avenue.

The railing is to separate the bus stops from the new 5A lanes, there will be hilarious little crosswalks painted on the lanes at the openings.

#yycbike report: Eau Claire and Riverwalk cleared until directly east of Reconciliation bridge. A rare miss for the EV crew not clearing much at all. George King bridge cleared, as is Bow north from there to around the zoo. Nose creek has lots of big drifts from Memorial to Spark area (311).

So much better this afternoon. Huge kudos to crews getting out and clearing. Still lots of cover and drift sections, but rideable. Around the zoo very nice and all of Bow north to Sunnyside. #yycbike

...and I'm here in the NE praying for a plow or two to hit my route before I head home.

#yycbike these may be the worst conditions I've tried to bike through? I've had bigger drifts and deeper snow but something about this consistency is murder. So slippy.
No plows on the bow pathways. I found this impassible on the bakfiets!

#yycbike report (0530). Eau Claire, Riverwalk, Bow north MUP ~3cm snow covered. Nose creek sligthly bare in spots due to the wind. Fox Hollow hill north section covered in brutal drifts. North wind is devastating, cover up all the skin. I'd be considering this expert level conditions today.

Putting 2nd/7th avenue on a road diet via the 5A lanes was exactly the point to deter speeding and cut-through traffic. Still can't please residents that thought a couple of speed bumps would take care of that. /facepalm

Heck, we'd probably get grief from community members if it happened too. So many can't see past their windshields, they'd be much happier if they rode a bike or walked around every now and then.

Community members tried at the city and councillor level. Zero chance...

I should update this, that yes there were people playing Fox Hollow that afternoon. And every day this week so far too.

I tend to go to Chinatown on Saturday or Sunday and those lots are always super empty. That whole neighbourhood would be awesome if filled with dense mixed-use developments. More people living there and great streetscapes with small storefronts to allow for great variety of shops.

Coming back to this in the afternoon, I'm so grumpy we didn't get this project. Even if reality turned out to be half the renderings it would have been great. Cool activated laneways, little store fronts, brick!. Chinatown needs unique density like this.
