She married a WI Oneida man, surname Webster, and lived most of her adult married life in the WI Rapids area. She raised her maternal half brother, Archie Arthur Elk’s son, Emanuel (Elk) Webster. I believe in her elite elder life, she lived in MKE until her passing. She never had children.

It’s Black History Month. The earliest known to me, part black and part Hoocąk person ws Carrie (Elk) Webster “Hįįnuka” wanaǧira. She was born near BRF, WI the daughter of Lucy (Moonhouse) Elk the Black shoemaker in town. She went to boarding school, both in Wittenberg and Chilocco. 1/2

If you cannot call it what it is when all in a week: a government removes every mention of a group of people, destroys information about them en masse, bans their discussion in schools, restricts their ability to travel and starts seizing and refusing their official identification, when will you?

What an achievement vaccines are. What a monument to our love for each other it is to stare straight into the face of something as horrific and unstoppable as smallpox or measles or polio or cervical cancer and say “You know what, it doesn’t have to be like this.”
