Scion by Thomas Ha Clarkesworld Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine and Podcast.

Hey there. Latest story, now out, "Scion." Strangeness. Estrangement. And the history that gets lost in between. A son and father in a moving house. Deranged relatives at cross-purposes. A community fleeing a murderous intruder. A crumbling lunar colony in revolt. Hope folks enjoy. Twisty one.

I am going to link to organizations that I know for sure are helping trans Kansans. This thread will develop slowly as I either know people or will vet them.

At this point we have not heard from anyone being helped via relocation resources. These exist, but I assume they are overwhelmed.

I really love being here on this earth. It’s so beautiful and humans are capable of such astonishing things & every culture is fascinating to me & the splendor of our natural world & the diversity of species is like an actual miracle. We must escape the Capitalocene and build something better.

Yes 🩷 I was just thinking too of how one of the craziest things about capitalism is that it convinced us to be loyal to the tools of our own oppression. We can do it, though - we *can* build something better!

Myth, monsters and making sense of a disenchanted world: why everyone is reading fantasy I have made the leap from literary fiction to fantasy – for those who think it’s mere wish-fulfilment, here’s why we need that thing with the dragons

"As a writer of literary fiction who has borrowed and rejoiced in fantasy tropes for years, and has now himself written an out-and-out fantasy, I’m beyond embarrassment."

"How can you oppose war when Khamenei was evil?"

Simple. If you killed Donald Trump by nuking Washington DC, I would not mourn Trump but I'd still say you're an evil war criminal who belongs in the Hague. It's really not hard.

Short break from insanity to share that UNCERTAIN SONS is a BSFA finalist. A testament to @undertow.bsky.social's thoughtful work more than anything else that the book has gone anywhere. Thanks to them and to folks who support indies like UP. Means a lot. Congrats to all the finalists.

Yeah this thread. I'm not dunking on this piece either. I think it's very smart and puts forth a great theory and it rings true in a lot of places for me. That said, as a person who crosses genre boundaries, I don't think it's as neat as when lit wants to challenge power it uses SFF. I think-

This is a great article that really speaks to me as a writer of both fantasy and historical novels.

I think historians & SFF writers share something else, which is that they work in worlds that hinge on realities, but because they no longer exist/never existed, can be visited only in imagination.
