In Scotland, nature is struggling.

But this year we have a huge chance to help it recover with the Natural Environment Bill.

We need our leaders to know how much Scotland's nature matters!

Climate change made severe UK fires in 2022 six times more likely New research shows that the damaging fires during the UK’s record-breaking 2022 heatwave were made at least six times more likely due to human-caused climate change.

The 2022 summer in UK saw temperatures hit 40Β°C for the first time and left firefighters stretched, with London Fire Brigade having its β€˜busiest day since the Second World War’

We know climate change is not a future threat but current reality

New research: birdlife soars on nature-friendly solar farms Nature-friendly solar farms in East Anglia support more bird species than arable land, boosting biodiversity

Think solar farms are bad for nature? Think again. Those designed for nature in East Anglia are teeming with birdlife - including threatened species. A new study reveals why. ‡️

"It took 68 years for the world to reach 1 terawatt of solar PV capacity. It took just two years to double it"

That's how exponential growth works.

And we were worried that solar growth might stall, but I think batteries will help it to continue.

The rate of global sea level rise doubled during the past three decades - Communications Earth & Environment Global mean sea level rise amounted to 4.5 mm per year as a result of warming oceans and melting land ice, more than twice the rate of 2.1 mm/year observed at the start of satellite data in 1993, base...

Global sea level is now rising twice as fast as 30 years ago

Rising global temperatures are causing glaciers and ice sheets to melt more, adding more water to the oceans, which also expand as they warm

We caused this by burning coal, oil and gas, and deforestation

Only 3 countries produced more emissions than Canada's wildfires last year, study finds | CBC News The wildfires that ripped through Canada’s forests last year produced more carbon emissions than the burning of fossil fuels in all but three countries, according to new research in the journal Nature.

Canada's wildfire emissions last year were more than all but three countries.

And, as per IPCC rules, Canada does not need to report wildfire emissions in its inventory. But as many will note, wildfires are getting worse because of climate change, so some of those emissions are anthropogenic (1)

In 2023 the world’s forests stopped acting as a carbon sink β€œWe cannot count on ecosystems to bail us out in the future.”

Usually, forests remove about 1/4 of the world's annual COβ‚‚ emissions.

In 2023, the carbon sink collapsed.

As a result, even though COβ‚‚ emissions only increased < 1.1% in 2023, the growth rate of COβ‚‚ in the atmosphere shot up by 86% compared to 2022.
