Unidata maintains a lot of key weather data infrastructure, including the netCDF data standard and libraries, metpy. data dissemination servers for accessing models and observations from NOAA, and educational resources for the university community. Now everyone is furloughed b/c of Trump and DOGE.

NOAA ends extreme weather database that tracked cost of disasters since 1980 | CNN Its discontinuation is another Trump-administration blow to the public’s view into how fossil fuel pollution is changing the world around them and making extreme weather more costly.

NEW: NOAA retires its widely cited billion-dollar weather and climate database amid staff cuts. Unique database had been tallying disaster costs for 45 years. www.cnn.com/2025/05/08/c...

As I read comments on social media posts about NOAA, I am calling on all of my broadcast media friends to do a story about everything that NOAA does for the public.

Local meteorologists could face layoffs amid new initiative with The Weather Channel The new initiative will be rolled out across 27 stations and feature "additional visual storytelling capabilities," Allen Media Group says.

'Excuse to cut costs' may be right on track... not sure if you've seen this in the news but I might assume outsourcing local weather coverage could save a buck or two. www.npr.org/2025/01/19/n...
