not that i'm particularly happy, because i wanted the good jooran ending. but alas, we need those steps, don't we.

when you get that ending, that scene, that letter, it becomes almost impossible to explain it as anything but as a romance. which, for how hard it is to push forward queer narratives in tv, is way more explicit than a subtext ending in which those two are playing prince/princess.

so i don't think they did it out of fear of backlash, but a happy jooran ending would not have the same impact. like, if you really think about it, a happy jooran ending would make most audience not realise how those two are in love. they'd call it platonic. they'd say it's friendship.

jeongnyeon was a show for us (the gays girlies) but the jooran ending is truly for the overall korean audience in which they had to make it sad to cause some sense of "can you understand how unfair it all is" bc if you follow their journey and care for them and have an ounce of compassion...

i will NOT be watching jeongnyeon's ending anytime soon bc i need to live with my happy lesbians for a bit more time, thank u

everyone else's too focused on the love story, but the underline is the love for one's homeland.......and whatever....
i think jamyunggo is actually the saddest tale i've ever read.

not to make everything about war trauma, but i mean. I feel like this is the only other theme in jeongnyeon, and it's almost never to the extent I wanted it to be (but I get why...) so, yeah, it's awful that she went off script because the play isn't about her, but actually, the play IS about her

apparently I'm not done, because singing gives them power in the story/shows the audience they're important. but soldiers are not, so when jeongnyeon defies her orders to blend in, she's also defying a bigger hierarchy that says soldiers/the people aren't important enough to be remembered.

now i'll be watching ep 7 idk, in two weeks i suppose. this was hard enough as it is.

many things can be right at once, but it's also true jeongnyeon understood the sentiment in the audience and delivered what they needed, which was solace. bc war isn't about kings and queens, but the people. and the people needed a song.
