We are. Especially misrepresenting conflicts between indigenous cultures.

Not really. Not if you're familiar with is saying his record.
But the way that you're interpreting his confidence and his enjoyment of being himself as intending to humiliate other people instead of tangentially doing it because they weren't like him...
That's not a reasonable interpretation.

It's weird but not unsurprising that KwanUm continues to advertise itself as Zen after the Japanese lineages were revealed to be indigenous religions unrelated to Indian-Chinese Zen. Much like Mormonism and Scientology aren't particularly concerned with academic integrity.

Zen's only practice is public interview and stand-up is often like interviewing yourself or at least your stand-up persona.
Interviews bring reality to the surface.
This set is a great example of that.
One of the ways that Zen distinguishes itself from all the religions and philosophies is Zen Masters HAVE TO answer questions.

Zen koans are transcripts: historical records of real life conversations

"What if their goal was to make air travel @$#&ing annoying?"
Every time we reframe a conversation in terms of the goal of a political movement or a religious organization or a social club, we get somewhere interesting.
"I've seen people with actual experience make bad decisions here." - Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
This quote really sums up modern arguments about Zen and academia and on social media.
Zen manners come from Zen enlightenment.
Christian humility and pluralism tolerance have no place in Zen study.
The lay precepts and the Four Statements of Zen do not ask us for either humility or tolerance.

I say my spiel:
Zen's 1k yrs of historical records (koans) from 5 lay precepts culture w/ the only Zen practice is public interview
...the only question I get is Why don't u believe church/guru more legit than history.
Meanwhile Zen is a tradition of answering the hardest questions publicly.
In the 1900s Western academics forced mysticism on Buddhisn; Japanese Critical Buddhism pushed back.
The West did everything to crush them.
But the argument remains... If you believe something then what's the catechism of what you believe??
1900s Western Buddhist was terrified of catechism.
People are often shocked when 1900s Zen scholarship is debunked. But think about how little from the 1900s we still find admirable and respectable.
From how medicine was practiced to how indigenous cultures were studied, the 1900s was mostly a train wreck.

Zen master Buddha was famous for going out in public and telling people to their faces about his teaching.
This is a great way to understand why zen Masters are so engaged in public interview... And why public interview is the only Zen practice.
