He was mostly done with it. Any anxiety he brought from the crowded club already floated away but the wisps of smoke always delighted him, watching them rise and float away. The click of the door behind him had him whipping around to see- “Oh, hey Barn.” The music invaded his space for a moment before Barnaby closed the door behind him. “Hey.” Wally turned back to the street as Barn leaned on the railing next to him. An ambulance wailed somewhere a couple of blocks away, he could see the red lights swim over the windows of buildings. Barnaby held his pipe out to Wally. “I forgot my lighter.”

More text, it reads: "It was easy to smile around Barnaby, small but genuine and warm. “I got it.” The cigarette was held in his mouth as he got his lighter from his pocket and fiddled with the spark wheel until flame flickered to life. Once the pipe was lit Wally found himself unable to look away as Barnaby took his first drag. Some days Wally could live with their friendship, always cherished it, but didn't need more. Then sometimes… the lighting was just perfect, or he sighed real deep or his fur was tousled in just the right way and… And… Wally looked away, clearing his throat before raising a shaking hand to take a puff from his cigarette. A stray dog fought a raccoon for some trashed food, next to a dumpster, right below the balcony. He couldn't see them per say but their shadows shone on the stone gate at the back of the property. If that wasn't evidence enough the growls and general ruckus was solid proof. “Ya cold?” Barnaby was already shrugging off his coat before Wally could answer. He chuckled. “A little.” He let Barnaby drape the coat over his shoulders and carefully bundle him up, so like his mother in that way. The majority of fabric pooled at Wally's feet. So warm and safe, surrounded by that mild cologne he got Barn last Christmas, Wally sighed. Barnaby pulled the hood over the smaller puppet's head. With a little adjusting the furry trim framed his face so perfectly. Barnaby looked over his work as his smile grew. His lips twitched in a way that Wally thought might have been a hint of a word, but nothing came. Wally nuzzled into the trim of the coat, something inside him wanted to hide away. “Can you put my cigarette out? I think I'm done for the night.” “Of course.” Wally forced himself to look away."
