Close-up headshot of a female sloth bear.
Hey Paji! π
Did you know: A sloth bear can fully close its nostrils when sniffing around ant hills and termite mounds. This helps make sure the bear doesn't suck up dirt or get insects crawling up its nose!

Front-facing closeup of the mouth and nose of a male prehensile-tailed porcupine.
Orange teeth?! Yes, porcupines like Ozzy have orange or reddish smiles because their teeth are coated by iron-rich enamel, not white enamel like humans. A porcupineβs front teeth also continuously grow, only naturally worn down by gnawing.

Two giant anteaters - one male and one female - eat fruits, eggs, and chow from a dish inside a zoo dayroom habitat.
Happy World Anteater Day to Gloria and McCauley!
Giant anteaters, like Zoo Boise's couple, are able to flick their two-foot-long tongues in and out 150 times per minute.

A male spotted-necked otter sits on a pool toy platform atop a pond in a zoo habitat.
The cleanest coat! Spotted-necked otters, like Harry, keep their dense hair in tip-top condition at all times. It's so thick because otters use their fur as insulation to trap in heat and stay warm.

Happy 4th birthday to Ozzy! π
Our prehensile-tailed porcupine celebrated with a special cake this weekend. It was made with items from his normal diet and topped with yams, peppers, spinach, peanut butter, and popcorn.
πΈ Donβt let the name fool you: the Amazon milk frog doesnβt make milk; it produces a protective secretion that is toxic to predators.

No tricks, only treats at Zoo Boise. ππ» Sandwiches aren't on the menu for our African wild dogs today... so how about a six-foot tall witch enrichment full of meat! Happy Halloween!
