I have vivid memories of 2015 and people telling me "trump can't win" and then when he won, telling me, "The supreme court is fine" and then telling me "roe v wade" is fine, and framing people like me as hysterical, so these people can actually eat shit and put in the work if they're sorry.

Game Changer, book 1 (not Heated Rivalry), was original fiction Reid submitted to AO3 as Stucky because she didn't know you could put original fiction on that site. Then she subbed it on her own as original fiction. Heated Rivalry was inspired by sports rivalries, but is not RPF.

I say this confidently: it was not. It was *inspired* by sports rivalries, which included Crosby and Ovechkin, among other sports rivalries. That is not the same as real person fic.

The algorithm there is VERY sensitive and tailored. Like for the most part, mine is books, but if something breaks containment from its algorithm silo and I click on it, I see about 4 similar posts on the next refresh. For people in that conspiracy silo, they're just absolutely swamped with slop.

I soothed so many queer friends who were terrified to watch and invest in it because of the prominence of Bury Your Gays storytelling. That comfort of letting yourself feel everything so deeply because you know it'll be okay is so important.

The reactions to the ending of Heated Rivalry is why capital-R Romance people will fight and die on the hill of the Happily Ever After/Happily For Now ending. That ending is load-bearing. It's earned. It's the soothing hug after the story took a bat to your emotions.
