Ooh, best typo ever, tariffs -> terrors, because iPhone autocorrected my initial misspelling to that.

You can get a really nice e-bike for that cost difference. I wonder how the terrors will impact their costs, but even at 25% they would still be cheaper than the cost differences listed here.

Iโ€™ve been liking the term Acoustic Bicycle, as opposed to Pedal Bicycle or Traditional Bicycle.

Oh, donโ€™t tell them that I also use butter, but not pepper, because thatโ€™s my sonโ€™s favorite dish and has an overly sensitive pallet so canโ€™t stand pepper.

Caltrans Bay Area has just released their update bike plan.

One of the "Top Tier Priority Projects" is 24/7 access to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

This is particularly ironic, because the day after tomorrow, Caltrans and MTC will ask that bike/ped access be curtailed to just 3 days a week.

Share the Road signs are intentionally dumb.

Share the Road signs are intentionally dumb.

It's time to stop using SHARE THE ROAD signs. They're deliberately vague and often misinterpreted. The real point of the signs: to remind drivers that bike riders have a right to use the full lane and that they need to be attentive and safe around riders. They don't connote both sides bullshit.

Oh, private property might make it even easier to convince the owner to do something. Even cheap plastic speed bumps could help.

Or in this case traffic engineers who designed a deadly road through this community.

Even the most pleasant trails end up having to cross paths with cars.

Intersections are the most dangerous place, for every type of road user (cars, bikes, peds, etc).

This is why itโ€™s hugely important to put in treatments like raised crosswalks to alert drivers to the danger.

06.08.2025 14:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Exactly. So few drivers have any perception of the danger they pose to others because it feels so safe in that cushy box.

And then there are the jackasses who try to scare and hurt you on purpose.

I enjoy riding so much that I wonโ€™t let them win, but I totally understand when people have enough.

Thatโ€™s really scary. Iโ€™m really glad that she wasnโ€™t hurt. Negative interactions with drivers, even when they donโ€™t hurt me physically, are always jarring. Theyโ€™re a reminder of how easy it is for them to do significant damage.

LMAO, their graphic shows he would have won without RCV.

Also, democracy is good. RCV creates more fair and democratic elections. They lost, their preferred corrupt politician lost, and now theyโ€™re just whining.

i know i post about it practically every week but it will never not be amazing how i went from a miserable weekly car commute that ruined my day and half my week to a bike commute where the worst part is just waking up to get out the door. it's so addictingly good i feel incredible rn

Warren should have pointed out that her state, Massachusetts, raised taxes on millionaires not by 2% like Mamdani wants, but by 4%. The result? Massachusetts saw a 39% INCREASE in millionaires, a drop in poverty, & a growing economy.

Stop trusting billionaires. Start taxing them outta existence.

I think it's been used more broadly in a classic sense to mean large groups of common labor, i.e. workers in a large factory, mining, building, etc.

With all the contract workers these days, the term itself starts getting a lot more blury. Is an electrician who has 2 or 3 employees working class?

Now you have me jealous, but I think it might give some Berkeleyans a heart attack.

Walking around Paris, I saw a number of modern buildings. Some were really nice, some were clearly built in the 70โ€™s or 80โ€™s and were hideous. The examples in these pictures arenโ€™t bad, but I did see nicer more modern ones elsewhere.

I enjoy that you picked out some of the uglier modern Parisian examples on the right, but clearly Iโ€™m not an aficionado ok design or anything, but I donโ€™t mind the one on the left?

One of the best things we can do to reduce crashes and their severity is lower vehicle speeds. In the absence of redesigned roads, automated enforcement is an effective way to achieve that goal. The fact these cameras produce revenue doesn't negate that speed lowering effect.

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death The capital city is Finnishโ€™ed with car-related fatalities.

Helsinki just hit a major milestoneโ€”0 traffic deaths in 2023!

This success is thanks to lower speed limits, safe street designs, increased pedestrian/bike infrastructure, coupled with speed cameras.

Itโ€™s like the oil industry has one mission, and thatโ€™s to make our planet uninhabitable by humans.

Maybe it was actually created by aliens. Maybe Rockefeller was actually an alien sent to destroy humanity so that they can move in with no one to fight.

The Mothership Vortex: An Investigation Into the Firm at the Heart of the Democratic Spam Machine How a single consulting firm extracted $282 million from a network of spam PACs while delivering just $11 million to actual campaigns.

The annoying spam texts destroying the Democratic brand:

$678M raised through those spam tactics

$282M to one consulting firm: Mothership Strategies.

$11M to actual campaigns (1.6%)

The party isnโ€™t just treating donors like marksโ€”itโ€™s being fleeced itself yet continues to back Mothership.

On climate, elites are themselves more Trumpy than not.

Trump can destroy American climate science and governance, but only when he uses his authoritarian tactics on economic data does the center descry the stakes of his disinformation.

Tesla hit with $243 million in damages after jury finds its Autopilot feature contributed to fatal crash The verdict follows a three-week trial that threw a spotlight on how Tesla and CEO Elon Musk have marketed their driver-assistance software.

A hugely important verdict.

The victims were pedestrians, so Tesla can't argue they knew/accepted Autopilot's risks.

People walking, biking, and inside other cars didn't consent to be Elon Musk's guinea pigs.
