One of the challenges is that for progressives they have to keep saying maybe or hopefully whereas the right only has to say no. It’s much harder to be for change than against it. Add the fact that the right is much more homogeneous which makes their messaging is much easier.

I retired from teaching in 2020 and taught Drama for 10 years after teaching English for 20. The slow steady decline in effort that I saw over time was disheartening. The lack of effort was what stood out for me. No one was ever required to “do anything they didn’t want to do”. I feel your pain.
