We on this side of the world appreciate our occasional chance to get to a major conference without spending a whole day on the plane, so it was nice to have SNTS over here! And we get to follow it up with ISBL next year

In other news, I’ll be talking about the Johannine Community at CBA tonight (Sunday morning for those actually in Chicago)

On the one hand, Zoom is great for making conferences accessible. On the other, it is an instrument of torture when the session I’m presenting in starts after 11pm here

Fair enough, I’m sure there will be some tricky decisions for people for this year. I realise my suggestion doesn’t help for this year but hopefully it gives another option for people planning ahead

For those looking for alternative options, international SBL will be in Australia next year. Could be a good option for those outside the USA

For those of you thinking about plans for conferences in 2026, including #sbl can I let you know that international SBL will be in Adelaide, Australia in July 5-9. We have lots of good wine, cute animals, and we are unlikely to randomly refuse entry to the country

There’s also no penalty to letting it lapse and then renewing it later, if in a year or two you do want to go to the annual meeting

Slightly concerning when a parcel arrives saying it has been released from biosecurity control. What did they think was in it?

There’s a certain type of relief one feels when reading reviewer comments on a revise and resubmit, and realising a major issue is essentially a matter of clarity rather than the substance of the argument

As someone with a chapter to write by the end of February, I’m quite happy that it’s still January!
