Comic. PERSON 1 [to person with white hat]: It’s so weird reading these 18th Century scholars argue about minor Biblical details. It’s like they’re an online fandom or something—They’ve developed this whole elaborate canon. [caption] It’s fun when a word’s usage goes full circle and, by analogy, lands back on its original meaning.

We on this side of the world appreciate our occasional chance to get to a major conference without spending a whole day on the plane, so it was nice to have SNTS over here! And we get to follow it up with ISBL next year

On the one hand, Zoom is great for making conferences accessible. On the other, it is an instrument of torture when the session I’m presenting in starts after 11pm here

I heard the titles of the papers Eric was giving and would love to have heard them. What brings Matt to Australia?

"For this reason, in the name of human dignity and international law, I reiterate to those in positions of responsibility the frequent warning of Pope Francis: 'War is always a defeat!' And that of Pope Pius XII: 'Nothing is lost with peace. Everything may be lost with war.'”

Interesting - was he using the early date to argue that it was a source for canonical gospels?

Last year I ended my project about Roman stylus tablets, which was funded by the @gerda-henkel-stiftung.de, early – for my dream job. But before I did, we filmed a series of short videos about the project, and the first episode is now live. (English Version available) ⬇️⬇️⬇️

NT/EC scholars who identify as women [at any career stage], please consider adding yourself to the Google Sheet I have created below (I’ve put myself first as an example). I’ve been part of several projects in the last few years where I and/or my fellow editors have struggled to achieve gender diversity in our project (which is, admittedly, only one dimension of diversity). How much easier it would be if we had a list to consult, especially if it connects us to people who are not in our typical networks. Feel free to share this post!
Don’t worry, you’re not committing yourself to anything by putting your name on the list! You can always say no if you get invited to something thar you aren’t able to commit to.
[It’s just that I just thrive on lists 😁]

Fair enough, I’m sure there will be some tricky decisions for people for this year. I realise my suggestion doesn’t help for this year but hopefully it gives another option for people planning ahead

For those of you thinking about plans for conferences in 2026, including #sbl can I let you know that international SBL will be in Adelaide, Australia in July 5-9. We have lots of good wine, cute animals, and we are unlikely to randomly refuse entry to the country

There’s also no penalty to letting it lapse and then renewing it later, if in a year or two you do want to go to the annual meeting

Slightly concerning when a parcel arrives saying it has been released from biosecurity control. What did they think was in it?

There’s a certain type of relief one feels when reading reviewer comments on a revise and resubmit, and realising a major issue is essentially a matter of clarity rather than the substance of the argument
