Delighted to receive the new biography of Anna Atkins by Corey Keller. It's a fascinating study of Annaβs life and work within the wider context of womenβs 19th century lives.
Highly recommended read and, of course, stunning illustrations.

3/3 In 1891 Jane's nephew and niece, Henry and Mary Wheeler were staying with her - by 1901 both documented as photographers. Henry became an acclaimed photographer at the Halksworth Wheeler photographic studio in Folkestone, and Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
02.05.2025 08:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 02/3 Jane Halksworth was recorded as a professional photographer in the 1860 Post Office Directory, possibly tutored by photographic artist James Tulley while resident at 58 Fleet Street in 1856. She married Lancelot Williams and in 1891 a new photographic connnection started.
