US Fed Railroad Admin is apparently directing Amtrak to split itself into 3 entities:
βOperations
βRolling stock [& maintenance facilities]
βInfra [mainly Northeast Corridor & stations]
This approach could have major ramifications for Amtrak. I'm personally quite skeptical it will improve outcomes.

Diving into TSP as a non-expert (I'm no traffic engineer) has been a wonderful journey into discovering how an apparently niche topic is deeply interwined with how we design streets and organize (or fail to) traffic patterns
It seems mostly a tech problem, but it's really a planning and design one
Make sure we flood METRO with positive feedback during the games :)

Check out the entertainment-focused shuttle routes here.
All service operate June 7 through July 11 (except airport service modifications that start this weekend).
Houston METRO revealed their World Cup service plan. This plan includes:
-All-day express bus service until midnight, every day
-Increased frequency and spans of service on buses and trains
-New service to Hobby Airport
-Shuttles connecting hotel zones to popular entertainment districts
According to Trains Magazine, Connecticut could remove M8 EMUs from Shore Line East *solely* because of the additional fees Amtrak charges for using electricity on the NEC.

Houstonβs Silver Line isnβt reported to the FTA as BRT anymore.
20 min headways, no more all-door boarding, or off-board fare payment, and still not TSP. :/
The left tried for decades to pass green energy subsidies, passed them, the subsidies worked, and now literally the entire planet's electricity grid is going to convert to solar+battery. It just doesn't feel like "tech" because it mostly produces kinda boring blue collar jobs instead of billionaires

Crazy. Clearly CT needs to negotiate with partners to ensure electric operation is cheaper than diesel.
Slower/heavier diesel trains are a bad option for EVERYONE
-Slower older trains for riders
-Less available capacity and more wear on the corridor
-Louder more polluting engines for everyone else
I think the intent is for it to be more of a high-capacity, highly-reliable feeder route for the RER and Tram, rather than the *fastest* way to get from A to B.

Paris region launched its Tzen 4 bus rapid transit line this week. The 14 km (9 mi), β¬123 m electrified route serves cities in the southern part of the metropolitan area; it's expected to serve 47,000 daily riders. It uses 24 m (79 ft) buses.

Today T6 Nord tramway opened in Lyon. The project isn't very big (just 5.5 km) but the timeline is just impressive: the project was launched in 2020, 3 years for planning, design, public consultation, permitting and contracting and less than 3 years for construction.

Sorry, but this @nytimes.com op-ed on free fares in New York City, by @galvinalmanza.bsky.social, is deeply ignorant of the issues.
It proposes that pretty social justice vibes and some careless citations will change facts of math. Thread: 1/
