Houstonโ€™s standard height has been 15cm, but is now using 23cm on our โ€œenhancedโ€ local bus projects. We donโ€™t notice any meaningful damage happening at this high. We accidentally built one at 28 cm, and that one does get damaged pretty often.

The bumps in the road facing self-driving cars - Think Transportation expert David Zipper joins host Krys Boyd to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of autonomous vehicles.

On @npr.org's Think podcast, I explained why ubiquitous robotaxis would create crushing gridlock:

"Human beings respond to an experience that gets better by doing more of it ... At scale, that means [you] have many, many more trips being taken by car on our roads and on our streets."

METRORail Red Line Traffic Signal Priority - LINK Houston The METRORail Red line began operating along Main St. in 2004. For 21 years, these trains have enjoyed traffic signal priority โ€“ meaning when the train approaches, green lights last [โ€ฆ]

@link-houston.bsky.social has been working to raise awareness of the issues caused by these changes. I encourage you to check out their landing page and and let them, the City, and METRO know how these changes are impacting you and people you know

The City of Houston has turned off signal preemption on Main Street as part of their re-timing of the entire Downtown signal state. This has resulted in delays that double travel times in Downtown. I am hopeful the City will return the Red Line to normal operation shortly.

Houston light rail commuters experience delays on Red Line following signal change To raise awareness about the new delays, LINK Houston organized a morning rush hour race on Thursday between pedestrians and the METRO Red Line across seven downtown blocks.

Light rail riders are experiencing delays along the METRO Red Line after adjustments to the timing of traffic lights.

The first three BOOST corridors (routes 54, 56, and 82) are nearing completion, benefiting almost 25,000 riders every day! Local buses are the backbone of any transit system and I applaud METRO for making such meaningful investments in their operation.

In the spirit of a #WeekWithoutDriving, I'd like to highlight a project I've been working on with Houston METRO to give a "BOOST" to people using our region's local bus network.

The BOOST (Bus Operations Optimized System Treatments) program aims to provide riders with the following:

Have you ever been led astray on your bike by Google Maps?

Popular wayfinding routes are often dangerous to use while biking. In Houston, theyโ€™ll commonly take you down streets on our High Injury Network โ€” which is often someoneโ€™s last bike ride.

In the US, everything that *makes cities work* costs 2-5x what it costs in Europe and Asia.

This includes, but is not limited to:
-Elevators
-Buses
-Subways

For years, GOP has been campaigning against cities, rooting against their success, accusing their residents of not being โ€œreal Americans,โ€ lying about their crime rates, denigrating their diversity.

The campaignโ€™s is logical conclusion: the GOP uses the federal government to attack those cities.

What should be a 7 minute trip through downtown just took 15 minutes. Trains are unable to keep 6 minute headways. Bunching in downtown is affecting the preemption beyond downtown. METRO is having to add trains to keep the schedule.
