Most copies probably ended up in the East River or some landfill , along with all those other β€˜52 Topps high number cards. It’s not like he’s a well-remembered coach (@brucemcclurenh.com may disagree), but that’s a great looking piece of cardboard.

Sadly, the main statistic many of us remember him for is two wives.

I don't know what surprises me more:
- The Steelers are 1-12 against the Bears in Chicago
- In over 90 years the Steelers have played just 13 games against the Bears in Chicago
- The Steelers played almost as many games in Chicago against the *Cardinals* (who left Chicago after 1959)

#Pittsburgh #Pirates SS Al Pedrique & RHP Mike Dunne were selected to the 1987 Topps Major League Rookie All-Star Team by sports writers.

The Pirates & Boston (Ellis Burks & Mike Greenwell) were the only clubs with 2 players on the team.

The Josh Gibson Foundation does it again.
Born in Barbados, Alexander McDonald β€œAM” Williams opened the first Black owned and operated baseball stadium in the United States, predating Greenly Field by a decade and some change. He was in an unmarked grave until this week but no more, thanks to the generous donations to the Josh Gibson Memorial Markers Project.

Alexander Williams, the person behind the first Black owned and operated ballpark, was in an unmarked grave for decades in Highwood Cemetery. No more. Thanks to the Josh Gibson Fndtn and donors, he now has a headstone.

71 years ago today, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected a promising 20-year-old outfielder named Roberto Clemente from the Brooklyn Dodgers in that era's equivalent of the Rule 5 draft.

Clemente had played for the Montreal Royals in 1954.
