I feel like a good rule of thumb is to never tell a marginalized group you are not a member of if they should be upset about something.

Kinda... it's not my job to tell someone they're trans, but answer questions and provide context if asked? Sure.

Club level sports car racing (SCCA and the like) seems maybe less bad, or maybe sort of the vibe of "midwest nice" where people aren't going to make a kerfluffle.

Or maybe I'm oblivious.

I'm definitely looking forwards to trying to go to some younger/queerer leaning stuff this summer tho.

I absolutely love this as an example of multiculturalism, not the least because it's the tail end of winter and thus has been far too long since I've had homedone BBQ.

So much agreed... like, I know what America has been and is, but I love the America of its own mythology; those two you quoted and the glorious multiculturalism belief in them enabled.

An excerpt from a post from Elon Musk: "For a country to survive, there has to be a common culture."

An excerpt from a post from Elon Musk: "For a country to survive, there has to be a common culture."

Like many disingenuous or outright false arguments, this one (in which the Elongated Muskrat goes on to argue that America is about whiteness) begins with an almost-true statement.

More accurate to say:
"For a [community] to survive, there have to be [some shared beliefs, values, and objectives]."

Donate to Support Joanne and Lori's Move to Stability, organized by Joanne Mahlmeister Hi, My name is Joanne. I am a transgender woman living north of Pitts… Joanne Mahlmeister needs your support for Support Joanne and Lori's Move to Stability

I don’t make this request lightly, but Joanne and Lori literally saved my life. They gave me a place to run to after I suffered a serious DV assault. Now they need help, and I am asking anyone who can do so to please contribute. Thank you.

You know what'd be an awesome, trans-positive, queer book to read? Nameless, my new cyberpunk novel, which is NOW OUT in DRM-free epub, paperback, and hardcover!! I'm so excited for y'all to meet Satya and Dan and the crew!

Part of Ghost Dog's character arc always has to be falling in service to an unworthy master, so.

IDK, if we ever get out of the Current Political Fuckening, Patreon funded all-trans roadrace team? @alyssamackenzie.bsky.social want to try a big bore tin top ride some day? Hee hee hee.

My intent isn't to just clone this particular chassis design, though it was a very successful one that many others did clone and if I ever got it built, would be more car than I've ever driven. But really it's to set a good baseline for further design, to compare changes against.

10.02.2026 12:45 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't know if it's possible to make a car within that spec line that's competitive with the top cars, but I suspect it's possible to make one that is close, at a fraction of the build and running cost.

And I like designing stuff, so I'm going to. Will it ever get built? Dunno.

The SCCA class for Trans Am machinery is GT-1 - it's mostly purpose built tube chassis roadrace cars with ex-NASCAR engines and lots of tire. But they allowed a spec line with a much simpler engine option with less power and less weight.

Oh yeah, speaking of reverse engineering, something I started. Someone, in the midst of posting restoration pictures of a late 90s Trans Am car, posted unscaled top and side view drawings. So I thought it would be fun to scale them and start cloning it in CAD.

You can start to get insight not just on the end result, but on the whole process to get there.

10.02.2026 04:26 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

One of the things I love about reverse engineering is that to do things right, it's often not enough to just look at the end result, but you need to understand why. "This detail is unusual, what was the designer thinking? What problem were they solving that I don't know about because it worked?"
