Call And Response 20th Anniversary PART 1: Call And Response's End Of Innocence Place: 東高円寺UFO CLUB Date: 11/2 (日) Time: 18:30 Price: ¥2800 adv / ¥3000 door (+1 drink) LIVE: ・P-iPLE ・Jocko ・デーメーテール ・Slowmarico ・DopeDobutu DJs: ・Sumire (Girlside) ・Daizo
The first of our 20th anniversary events is coming up in a couple of weeks at Higashi-Koenji UFO Club on November 2nd. Post-punk music, indie DJs, and heaps of loud, rhythmically obtuse, discordant fun. A good friend once called it "stupid fucking childish noise" but we just call it pop.

The Grandma's Garden debut EP is available now in full on our Bandcamp. Check it out for 20 minutes of spiky, riff-heavy, indie-punk party songs from Tokyo's hottest new duo: call-and-response.bandcamp.com/album/sweet-...

*Editing was very easy because it’s an unbroken 3.5-minute shot! I’m the Orson Welles of Koenji, baby.
The Grandma's Garden EP is out next Friday, but in the meantime, @mattschley.com made this fantastic video for the song だから、さよなら. Really pleased with this one. Thanks to all who helped out with their time and good spirits (and shitty yet affordable spirits):

04.10.2025 01:10 — 👍 6 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 1Another of Sumita's old bands, and one he does play on, is Hiroshima-originated noise-punk maniacs Jailbird Y. If you're a fan of raucous, playful, hardcore-adjacent Japanese junk in the tradition of the Boredoms, then this is well worth a listen:

While GG are a new band, drummer Sumita has been around in a great many projects over the years including a couple of ours. He played with P-iPLE for a while, and while he isn't on any of the recordings, fans of skronky punk trash should check them out: call-and-response.bandcamp.com/album/missin...

In a way, that album is the urban-tinted 3rd part of a triptych of releases we've been putting out. Earlier this year, we released Lo-shi's album Moro-Q: a more ambient take on the same kraut-ish tendencies, which I think of as the more suburban 2nd part:

Since our current preorder release, Former_Airline's new album Breath of the Machineries, leans on what I'd call the abstract pop side of the label, I'm gonna use this thread to highlight some higlights of that side of what we do:

If Bandcamp Friday means one thing, it means a reminder for us to occasionally promote our music. We've been going for nearly 20 years from our base in Tokyo, releasing all sorts of skronky postpunk, indie and abstract pop. Most of it is either hosted or linked here:

We've other releases by Former_Airline, Lo-shi and Sea Level (some hosted on our Bandcamp page and some linked away to the bands' own pages), so if you dig these releases, please explore. They're all excellent.
