Someone may ask "what's your least favorite line reading in a major Hollywood film?"

My answer is every line Leto delivers in that cartoon Brooklyn accent in Requiem, and "no more dead cops!" in The Dark Knight

Requiem for a Dream and Lord of War are two of my all time favorite movies, and Leto is something I *tolerate* in those films and peer around to see the actual greatness on screen with Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Connelly, Ellen Burstyn, and Nicholas Cage. He's a cost of admission, not the show.

Some get away with several objectively bad products before they're finally banished.

Jared Leto's been able to coast for decades on early career wins and deflect a string of failures onto production disarray rather than his lack of talent and being a shitty person.

American Pop culture is unique because more than anywhere else it has a threshold where an artist or actor becomes so big that their work no longer needs to be amazing or even good to sustain their celebrity, it just needs to not be bad.

The U.S. has stepped in with an extraordinary bailout of Argentina. Here's what it means The Treasury Department has extended a financial lifeline to Argentina in apparent hopes of heading off an emerging market financial crisis.

Nobody wants it as a story but I have multiple NYPD sources who voted for Mamdani, are eager for his win in November, and who say their colleagues quietly feel the same.

They like that he wants NYPD to focus on crime, not quality of life enforcement.

I try not to play my β€œI was in special ed” card so much that it loses its power, but it saved my life and this is going to cost the lives of children.

Whether by suicide, ending up in prison, actual medical complications, this is going to kill kids and destroy families.

Of course they don't care about "the people" but they do care about the money from donors and if it looks like a rep or senator can't possibly win because of protest turnout guess what happens to the money?

Cynical? Sure, but that's the system.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

I now realize that for my entire adult life, I've had a very narrow conception of what "supporting and defending the Constitution" means. Standing on business when armed agents of the State are knocking on your door is way more important, by a country mile, than anything I did overseas

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

β€œMy world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A few more pics, a really great event that refilled my tank with hope. He also spoke at length about opposition to Trump- it's not about himself, any individual or any particular issue they pick a fight on, it's about standing up to protect and love this city and on that we can all stand arm in arm.

Telling moment when the podium needed to be moved from the stage, a member of church staff came to move it and Mamdani automatically helped. It's a small moment but the reflexive impulse to lend a hand says a lot to me. A crowd member yelled "Mamdani gets it done!"

Scariest moment in the Shining for me is just as Jack fully snaps, he tersely says β€œWendy. Darling. Light. Of my life.” in the abuser’s cadence that’s meant to project calmness and rationality, but means hate and murder.

In a film of extreme supernature, it’s a disturbingly real moment.

Every democrat should be talking like this. Not the feckless mueller time version of this that we’ve had for years, but actual promises of actual consequences

As long as it goes unpunished we’ll never be free of this
