Well done to Deidre Haskell, @archernikov.bsky.social, and others who have resigned en masse from the profit-oriented Mathematical Logic Quarterly and founded a new diamond open-access journal ZML!
Academics have the upper hand over commercial publishers, when they decide to flex their muscles.
Another blog post on Retraction Watch about the Mathematical Logic Quarterly editorial board walk out, and the launch of a new diamond open access journal Zeitschrift für Mathematische Logik (ZML).

I'm excited to join the editorial board of a new diamond open access journal in mathematical logic:
ZML: Zeitschrift für Mathematische Logik und Grundlagen der Mathematik

The open letter of the editors of ZML can be found online on the webpage.
A photo of Zoé Chatzidakis smiling.
Very very sad news for all of us in the model theory community.
Dr. Zoé Chatzidakis, a brilliant mathematician, loyal friend, fierce advocate for her subject and strong supporter of women and young people. She died on the morning of January 22, 2025.

My #math department at #UCLA is now advertising for an additional tenure-track assistant professor position as part of UCLA's HSI (Hispanic Serving Institution) initiative: recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF10045 . The deadline for applications is Jan 20, 2025.

Here I am! What's going on at BlueSky? I'm interested in all things infinite, including especially math and philosophy and the interaction of math and philosophy. Please point me toward what's going on here.
Meanwhile, for your enjoyment here is a picture I made of the first few surreal numbers...

It feels a bit strange having a completely empty profile page, so here's an introductory post to say that I'm only an occasional contributor to Twitter, but my plan now is to cross post here and see how things go, both for me personally and for the two sites as a whole. 1/4

Another issue I'm encountering is that as you write, you want to do more things, or do them right - unclear how one could estimate how long it takes, even if you push everything else off.
