โ€œWhen I was growing up, the story of Israel was always ever-present in the family home and in the school,โ€ he says. โ€œAs I got older, though, I was always really aware of socialist Zionism, a small group of people that were always against the eviction of the Palestinians from their homeland, and [non-Zionist Jewish socialist movement] Bundism as well.

โ€œSo, thereโ€™s lots of different aspects of what a Jewish homeland would look like. It is a complicated, sensitive and nuanced conversation. What is clear to me, though, is what Zionism is under Benjamin Netanyahu โ€“ a genocidal regime.โ€

โ€œZionism is racismโ€ is the title of a motion that is being sent to the next Green Party Conference and that Polanski has not opposed. Would that statement not flatten the nuance he speaks of? โ€œIf weโ€™re talking about Benjamin Netanyahu and the genocidal regime, then that is obviously racist,โ€ he replies.

But โ€œZionism is racismโ€ would be labelling as racist those he grew up alongside โ€“ family, friends โ€“ who consider themselves Zionist.

โ€œI think all statements and slogans are complicated because thereโ€™s always more nuance behind a sentence, and so thatโ€™s why I think the sentence needs qualifying to talk about the present day and whatโ€™s happening right now.โ€

He would not consider them racists for being Zionists, though, would he? โ€œWho, sorry?โ€ Zionists he grew up around, for example. โ€œI think if someone supports Benjamin Netanyahuโ€™s genocide, then I think thereโ€™s no other definition of that than racist.โ€

But he has mentioned different kinds, such as socialist Zionism? โ€œYeah, and so thatโ€™s for that person to define what their Zionism is. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m defining the Zionism that Iโ€™m talking about. And thatโ€™s the problem with labels, right?โ€

This is also a fucking word salad response. 'It all depends what the definition of Zionism is' - except this motion (which he refuses to condemn) literally does not make any distinction! You could be a left-wing Histadrut organiser who hates Netanyahu, this motion would still define you as a racist.

With Reform UK calling for the return of grammar schools, Iโ€™ve shared an excerpt from my first book The Myth of Meritocracy examining the evidence on who actually benefits from selection.

Clue: it isnโ€™t working-class pupils. www.forthedeskdrawer.com/p/the-enduri...

But, rather than receiving a formal
invite to meet Trump, Farage was in
fact invited to Mar-a-Lago by a
member of the club, according to
multiple people briefed on the matter

They said Farage had hoped he would
be able to catch Trump for a
conversation as the US president was
scheduled to travel to Mar-a-Lago that
evening. However, Trump had a
change in his itinerary and decided to
stay instead in Doral, about an hour`s
drive away

The Reform leader's failure to secure

between the two populist leaders who
famously formed a close friendship in
the vears before and after the 2016

Massive humiliation for Farage, who tipped off the UK press that he was flying to Florida to have dinner with Trump... only for Trump to decide he had more interesting things to do when Nigel arrived.

Ha ha. In fairness I have lived in a few of those! Wythenshawe, Sale, Stretford, Old Trafford, Bury, Rochdale is my sequence! A โ€˜breakโ€™ in Leicester for 3 years which was another great student city!

Maybe not. I speak only of my experience as a Mancunian. Iโ€™d say music culture from late 70s to present day very much student driven (Hacienda, Smiths, later Oasis). Same with foodie things like curry mile. Not sure about Sport! All cities unique I guess - most vibrant ones have lots of students.

Of all the complaints against Starmer, the most absurd is that it's "weak" to have a Cabinet that doesn't just rubber-stamp what The Leader wants on questions of war & peace.

I'd take Cabinet govt - in which ministers kick the tyres of big decisions - over the kneel-and-obey model of Farage any day

I think this healthy academic history and culture has more to do with โ€œManchesterismโ€ than given credit for. The student/local mix is a critical part of the uniqueness of the City and a most important part of its fabric.

I guess there is no reason to vote for a supplemental military appropriation for Trumpโ€™s War or anything else since he isnโ€™t signing anything right now.
