It's time to act before another person dies, not after. @cmeddielin.bsky.social, @mayorofseattle.bsky.social

Was in bike traffic on Dearborn despite the rain today. Lots of people depend on this safe bike connection every single day and right now it's not safe.

Congrats to the person that posted this hilarious bait so you can see the literal worst people you know saying that not being able to perjure yourself to get out of a speeding ticket is fascist.

The dichotomy of Rainier Ave in Mt Baker is that three blocks towards LWB is some of the most expensive homes on some of the most expensive land outside downtown, but Rainier Ave is such a disamenity that only a car wash makes sense here.
05.03.2026 04:33 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Sure it isn't true that the bike lane is going to cost tens of millions of dollars, but imagine if it were.
05.03.2026 04:17 β π 29 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I finally got around to sending an email to @cmeddielin.bsky.social, SDOT, and the mayor's office about this. We need a better solution to closures of major bike routes than telling people on bikes "good luck"
05.03.2026 02:52 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1
Earlier in the meeting someone tried to leverage the "trauma" of the West Seattle Bridge closure as a reason why SDOT should back off major changes to Highway Park Way.
Just a step short of, "this is my emotional support fourth traffic lane."

Again, these things are not competitive with each other, the political will that beats NIMBYs beats them in all venues at once, you can't give it to NIMBYs on tiny housing villages because that lionizes them to oppose apartments.
bsky.app/profile/jroc...
Respectfully you are listing stuff that NIMBYs do against any housing not just tiny house villages as evidence that tiny house villages are bad
05.03.2026 00:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Again, this is a symptom of NIMBYs having power not a symptom of tiny house villages. If you stop doing tiny house villages they'll just spend they time opposing apartments.
05.03.2026 00:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't see these as competitive. The political will that allows us to stand up a tiny house village in a week is the same political will that allows us to permit an apartment in a month.

Neighbors are literally also up in arms about towers* in lakewood.
* 4 story townhomes
Even cities with very expensive land have vacant land banked that isn't being used productively. This gives land owners an alternative to surface parking lots.

You: "[scooter riders have a t]otal lack of concern or situational awareness."
Also you: "Without details your can't assign fault."
So why did you implicitly assign fault to the scooter rider?
"WSDOT was able to affirm that Rainier Avenue functioned well with just one general purpose lane continuing through the interchange in each direction, along with a dedicated bus lane." πβΌοΈ
@mayorofseattle.bsky.social should transform Rainier Ave S to be safe and accessible for all
About time. The perjury "loophole" is used by the worst people you know to get out of all of their camera tickets.

The state legislature is set to require drivers who get out of traffic camera citations by swearing under oath that they weren't driving their vehicle at the time to:
Present the police report stating that the car was stolen,
proof of vehicle sale, or testify who actually was driving the vehicle.
30mph speed limits are way too high if you actually care about lives. 20 kph (15mph) is the international best practice for urban roads.

You have to apply that to every system, not just housing
In the US our entire legal system for transportation is based around the idea that compared to peer nations like the UK and Germany we need to have a 460% greater chance of dying in a car crash so the big 5 can continue to make billions a year selling pickup trucks.

04.03.2026 15:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Removing cars completely lets us think about how a transit first u-dub area would look like. And that includes how to serve those east-west commutes with transit instead of cars.
04.03.2026 15:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One of the problems with starting from the idea that we need to maintain easy car commutes from north east Seattle to the east side is that going to one lane in each direction will also be pretty disruptive for those commutes.
