The dichotomy of Rainier Ave in Mt Baker is that three blocks towards LWB is some of the most expensive homes on some of the most expensive land outside downtown, but Rainier Ave is such a disamenity that only a car wash makes sense here.

Sure it isn't true that the bike lane is going to cost tens of millions of dollars, but imagine if it were.

I finally got around to sending an email to @cmeddielin.bsky.social, SDOT, and the mayor's office about this. We need a better solution to closures of major bike routes than telling people on bikes "good luck"

Earlier in the meeting someone tried to leverage the "trauma" of the West Seattle Bridge closure as a reason why SDOT should back off major changes to Highway Park Way.

Just a step short of, "this is my emotional support fourth traffic lane."

Again, these things are not competitive with each other, the political will that beats NIMBYs beats them in all venues at once, you can't give it to NIMBYs on tiny housing villages because that lionizes them to oppose apartments.

Again, this is a symptom of NIMBYs having power not a symptom of tiny house villages. If you stop doing tiny house villages they'll just spend they time opposing apartments.

I don't see these as competitive. The political will that allows us to stand up a tiny house village in a week is the same political will that allows us to permit an apartment in a month.

Neighbors are literally also up in arms about towers* in lakewood.

Even cities with very expensive land have vacant land banked that isn't being used productively. This gives land owners an alternative to surface parking lots.

About time. The perjury "loophole" is used by the worst people you know to get out of all of their camera tickets.

(a) Provides a copy of a filed police report to the court indicating that the vehicle was reported stolen at the time the violation occurred; (b) Provides evidence to the court that a report of sale was filed with the department pursuant to RCW 46.12.650 prior to the date and time of the violation; or (c) States, under oath, in testimony before the court the full name and current address of the person who was in the care, custody, or control of the vehicle at the time of the violation.

The state legislature is set to require drivers who get out of traffic camera citations by swearing under oath that they weren't driving their vehicle at the time to:

Present the police report stating that the car was stolen,
proof of vehicle sale, or testify who actually was driving the vehicle.

30mph speed limits are way too high if you actually care about lives. 20 kph (15mph) is the international best practice for urban roads.

You have to apply that to every system, not just housing

In the US our entire legal system for transportation is based around the idea that compared to peer nations like the UK and Germany we need to have a 460% greater chance of dying in a car crash so the big 5 can continue to make billions a year selling pickup trucks.

Yes. You looked at a post about a driver hitting a scooter rider and you blamed the scooter rider.

Removing cars completely lets us think about how a transit first u-dub area would look like. And that includes how to serve those east-west commutes with transit instead of cars.

One of the problems with starting from the idea that we need to maintain easy car commutes from north east Seattle to the east side is that going to one lane in each direction will also be pretty disruptive for those commutes.
