Naoko Yamada has always excelled at using color in her storytelling, k-on s2 is packed with it, but this is where i think it truly reaches the next level
gorgeous film with so much information packed in every frame
been 2 days since i watched it but the K-ON movie is everything i could have wanted and more
Azusa is already the emotional core of the second season and the movie doubles down on that in a way that the climax of the story hits you even harder than it did in the TV series
My first article for @magicalstage.moe in over a year and it's about Mitsuru Aoyama!
I got out the dusty line graphs and the spreadsheets to make something concrete about one of my favourite animators!
Jacob talking into a microphone in front of a variety of characters. Mara from "Perfect Tides," Tommy from Rugrats, a big daddy from Bioshock, and Jesus Christ holding a cross-themed game controller.
In the years since publishing my Wolfenstein essay, Iβve wondered what a truly βJewish gameβ might look like. Does it need to explore the themes and narratives of the culture? Or could it simply star the most famous Jew of all time β Jesus Christ himself? youtu.be/8dkB-KTMB3o

And often times when you see an anime focused on a craft it's usually at the center of the story's conflicts.
K-on doesn't have those, instead it will hit you with the reminder every other episode that nothing lasts forever and you will feel like sobbing
K-on is all about cherishing the time you have with the people around you despite it not being permanent. The uncertainty of growing up and potentially drifting apart from your peers is something everyone can relate to. You could call k-on a music anime but there isn't much for music nerds here.
20.02.2026 09:20 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0k-on season 2 has placed a lot of emphasis on HTT's time together being temporary and enjoying the time they have left to the fullest so seeing the third years break down in tears after their last high school consert kinda hits you like a truck

HUGE news, this changes everything
I thought Ikoku Nikki was amazing and no one should skip it, but actually, it's better & watching should be mandated by law
Embarrassing example of the commodification of artists through this new wave of "sakuga discourse" (hypeposting about action anime) is joking about a person working under a different name after going through a rough patch wrt mental health. Wanting a clean start is not "a bad attempt at fooling you"

K-on!! Episode 9 kinda almost had me sobbing
Seeing Yui's growth as a person and her wanting to do something for the granny next door was so nice.
Juggling both the talent show and her exams while succeeding at both, i feel like a proud dadππ
Another heavy episode about memories, grief, and trauma hovering over survivors. And yet, it culminates in a beautiful scene where this welcoming environment allows Asa to establish her identity. To convey this, guest animator Naoya Takahashi makes the show's naturalism more charismatic than ever

Watch Ikoku Nikki
Read Ikoku Nikki
Do not skip Ikoku Nikki
Ikoku Nikki!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Frieren anime will never get enough credit (and conversely, the source material doesn't get enough flak) for the increase in specificity in the depiction of cultures. Often hazy locations become places where people eat a certain way, have architecture of their own, display tangible imagery, etc
