I get it. The term is misleading. Neoliberalism doesn’t mean liberal in the democratic, pluralist sense—it came out of Europe in the 1930s to describe a “new” market liberalism: privatization, deregulation, and shrinking the state. Over time it became shorthand for policies that let markets rule.
