Are you kidding? Why are people so clueless about this?? If you have the means and this bothers you, freaking donate $$ or supplies or time or all three to help out! Donate that cute rug, etc. Also offer teachers books your kids no longer want/use before taking them to goodwill. Send extra supplies!

EXXXXXACTLY! that’s when a classroom really feels the best! anchor charts (which are created during lessons after school starts) & student work are what make it really come together

the good parents (that support w/ time or $ or just actively being interested in their child’s education) really make all the difference!
that poor teacher prob feels terrible now in an already stressful time. she may not have even had access to her room early enough to make it nice

it’s a taboo topic to talk about how much $ you spend on your classroom while you’re actively in the career, so you won’t see many current teachers talk about it, but it’s such a huge problem. if teachers stopped funding their own classrooms the system would collapse

i did get $100 for supplies but that was because we didn’t send a list of school supplies out to be provided by parents, everything was provided by the school (as it should be), but teachers filled in the gaps for that too
$100 isn’t enough for school supplies for 25 kids for a year

& that’s in addition to hundreds of books i thrifted to build my own classrm library (not cheap!) anyway, support your child’s teacher if you can. most people have no clue how much teachers personally fund anything extra when it comes to decor, fun activities, books, games, treats, manipulatives etc

i prob spent $1k of my own money on classroom decor before i even got paid my 1st year just to make it feel fun & inviting. all of this is done outside of contract time too. thankfully i had some $ saved & access to my classroom early enough to pull it off, but many teachers don’t have that luxury

i just saw a mom SOBBING on TikTok after she got back from Meet The Teacher Night because the classroom wasn’t cute enough & didn’t have a cute rug 🙄 i need parents to know that all the cute decor in a classroom is paid for out of pocket by your child’s teacher. they don’t get a decor budget

If you’re worried about the young people today and their mental health crisis, it’s comforting to spend 5 minutes on Nextdoor. The old people are SO much crazier!
