Think about buying a car, a fun, stress-free negotiating process that everybody loves. Now imagine that if you don’t buy a car you die and if you buy the wrong car you also die

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

The deep irony is going to be the democrats voted to help the fascists materially and the fascists will just continue crushing the public using all means including never restarting snap because the goal was to kill all social services not reopen government.

Democrats played themselves. Again.

3) They deliberately roundup senators who aren't facing voters to do the selling out.
And, the coup de grace ...
4) They sell out *in order to preserve the filibuster*, one of the very artifacts that makes the Senate so miserable & useless.

Perfectly shitty, as though designed in a Shit Lab.

This is why this surrender isn't just about this narrow issue but is rather the whole constitutional ballgame:

Democrats are affirmatively signaling they do not want political power at the same time Trump is transitioning the political system into an autocratic one wherein they're denied it forever

Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

With Democrats like these, who needs Republicans?

Maybe important to note it was the disruption in air travel that Democrats couldn't stand and not, you know, 40+ million people not knowing where their next meal was coming from.

Trump is 30 points underwater. Dems swept the special elections. People know the GOP is responsible for the shutdown. So the Dem Senators pulled out their big guns... and shot themselves in the foot.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

SNAP has existed for 60 years. Benefits have gone out every single month over those six decades, including during government shutdowns. Until now.

Make no mistake: The money is available to fund SNAP during this shutdown. Trump is making a choice to withhold it.

Don’t forget this.

If the Democrats keep nominating charismatic candidates who actually like people, they're going to get massacred in 2026 and 2028.

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that.

But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal.

You can’t negotiate with people like that.

If you are a Democratic senator watching these results and the lesson you take is "I should cave and help Republicans reopen the government for nothing more than a promise written on toilet paper" then you shouldn't be in the Senate anymore

Looking forward to learning all about how the right should move left to win elections tomorrow. They should maybe dye their hair pink, learn to love pronouns.

I think a thing we'll learn tonight is that people fucking hate what is going on and they will straight ticket vote against anyone involved in starving people while pillaging the country and kidnapping their neighbors. I don't think it matters at all who that person is.

AOC: We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was. A man who believed that the civil rights act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake… His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.

1) Once you start seriously talking "deporting" (that is: forcibly exiling/imprisoning/disappearing) citizens, you are unequivocally fascists &, thus, the baddies.

2) fuck you to any &every single person who said that people concerned about the rise of fascism in the US were overreacting.
