We need rules that say that an HOA can only be managed by people with jobs, because when you put retired elderly people with nothing better to do in charge you get...whatever this is.

Wait, you mean to tell me that a daily dose of dog means a daily dose of TWO dogs?

Yeah. It's kind of the same on the other side of the pond as well.

I was lucky enough to have a Civics class and a very forward thinking history teacher, but if most schools do have the budget for stuff like that it's usually sequestered into things like debate clubs and mock trail teams.

If it was up to me, rhetoric and debate would be included in every school curriculum across the globe.

In a factory way down South.

Yet.

If something like this was implemented with understanding and dignity, I could see it being helpful as a way for disabled people to control directly and help around the home and work, which would allow them to maintain their independence.

It won't, but it's a nice thought.

True, although I would say the sexual politics are more of a reflection of Roman society as a whole rather than Virgil alone.

It is a master class in storytelling, culture building, and the use of fiction to establish political narratives and power.

I mean, if you're immortal you have the time to practice.

Snyder is VERY good at the surface level stuff. MoS looked amazing and the fight scenes were awesome.

He just needs a bit of help to work through things like motivation and character, which is why I think he's at his best when he has really strong source material like "300" or "Watchmen".

It's like the argument that the Roman Empire never fell, it just became the Catholic Church.

Again, it's a solid and valid argument, I just think there are enough differences to separate the two.

It is a solid argument, but while I agree that Mahmed did maintain, preserve, and reform a lot from the Empire he did it as an outsider looking in, while the Byzantines did the same thing, but could claim continuity of governance.

Because the Marian Reforms made Roman soldiers loyal to their generals instead of the city itself, and because the Romans didn't pay Alaic and his people enough to do the job they had contracted them to do.
