Two weeks into living in Ilsabard, she started to smell the oil. The old train terminal was thick with the grease leaking from the corpses of decrepit machinery. Clove oil, like the kind she used on her own weapons, was liberally applied to swords and armor to fight the powder snow that was ever pervasive outside and and even worse in the station once it melted into slush. In front of her, Jullus dabbed a thin, odorless liquid onto a small cloth and ran it along the disassembled interior of his firearm. Oil on skin, cooking oil, accelerants. It was a new sensation, the ability to smell, and Zero didn't know whether to cover her nose or breathe it all in like it was the last of her humanity
