When your taxi drives itself, the driver doesn’t stop for a coffee, buy a bacon butty, or lunch, or a pint… doesn’t pay NI or income tax or VAT.

But don’t worry; the programmers who enabled it live in Bolivia.

And the guys they work for keep their money in Panama.

What could go wrong…

In London and free tonight? Get along to Holland Park Opera and watch my amazing sister-in-law playing the clarinet for City of London Sinfonia.

Oops! The Times has had to issue an embarrassing correction over supposedly "sluggish" EV sales 😳

❌ It said EV sales to private buyers fell 10.8% this yr
βœ…They actually GREW…by 62%

Yet Times articles still claim a "big fall", "collapse" & "slide" in private EV sales πŸ€”

He was nasty in one of the Jurassic films from memory: very good actor. Hard to think of him as the copper from the Salisbury poisonings drama 🀣

Almost didn’t recognise him he’s so good. More American than most Americans I know.

Watched #TheFlash It was silly but self-aware with some great humour. Which DC doesn’t always do well. Knockabout stuff but I enjoyed it. 7/10

The internet is becoming unusable as a result of AI.

And no one seems to give a shit.

You can’t search for actual facts or information any more.

Now you’re presented with guesswork from AI.

The Dark Knight is not just a great Batman movie. It’s a great movie. With or without its fellow trilogy members.

It’s a terrific and wholly credible story. It’s a fantastic script. It’s beautifully acted. Zimmer’s score is impeccable.

It’s almost impossible to fault.

β€˜Let me get this straight. You think your client - one of the wealthiest most powerful men in the world - is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands, and your plan is to blackmail this person?

β€˜Good luck.’

Name that superb movie.

I remember doing hospitality at The Oval and cheering when it rained! Which kind of misses the point. But I put that down to the eons of pain of last seeing England win when I was 17…

All I really remember is Freddie hugging Brett Lee and the open top bus tour.

Was 2-2 fair?

Maybe.

But we lost 3-1 when we lost a couple of sessions down there.

We drew the last Ashes having battered the Aussies all summer.

That’s the wonder and majesty of sport.

In the end, you either just want to win (fair enough) or you want the stuff of legend. Me? I’m a romantic.

You surely cannot be a cricket fan and feel anything other than mesmerised and enthralled by possibly the best series of my lifetime’s following and watching the game.

Yes 2005 was fantastic but the standard of cricket and way it’s been played this summer.

Just wow.

Massive kudos to #EngvInd 🏏

Already the highest scoring test series ever (five tests). And either 3-1 or 2-2 would be an accurate reflection of an incredible series. Brilliant brilliant cricket all round.

It’s not baked into humanity, it’s baked into evolution.

Most civilisations don’t survive because more species don’t survive.

We’re just the first to be sentient enough to be able to recognise it but also arrogant enough to think we can prevent it.

Qirat the very definition of horses for courses.

Only ever won three times. All at Goodwood.

Today at 150/1 in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes.

Last time out 27th of 30 in a handicap at Ascot.

Utterly bonkers.

EVASIVE MANOEUVRES

A REPORT from the Commons public accounts committee suggests that the game of cat-and-mouse between the tax authorities and wealthy tax dodgers is not going so well.

In 2023/24, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) recovered Β£5.2bn from clamping down on tax avoidance and evasion by wealthy individuals (income above Β£200,000 or assets above Β£2m). This was an impressive Β£3bn increase on the last pre-pandemic year - although around Β£650m of this seems to have been from Bernie Ecclestone's contribution alone.

In the same year, however, HMRC prosecuted just 25 wealthy individuals for tax evasion, down from 30 four years earlier. The number of penalties charged fell more dramatically, from more than 2,000 pre-pandemic to just 456.

Most rich tax dodgers have advisers helping them to do it, and clamping down on these would be perhaps the most cost-effective way to address the problem. This was recognised by a previous government when, in 2017 (following the big offshore leaks revelations), it introduced swingeing penalties for "enablers" of tax evasion. Yet, remarkably, no such penalties have been levied.

We’re reached a point where volunteers have to justify saving other humans from drowning.

This is no accident:

It’s years of demonising, self-centring, promotion of selfish over selfless, and the pursuit of wealth at all costs.

If this is your political legacy, you should be ashamed.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss…

For more than a decade since the departure of Nicola Cortese, the club has been run like a monkey was handed a hosepipe while blindfolded and told to wash a car.

Yes sometimes the car got wet. But is not really washing as anyone could describe it…
