Sure, my point is more in retrospect. Would lack of image training solve that problem?
30.08.2025 19:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Help me if I'm wrong: you could choose to "shut it off" by not training with it to begin with, right?
I know we're past that point.
I hate that Iβm going to ask this.
But how much of this reporting is pure fact vs some storytelling? Is the story in the ground inside NOAA as dire?
Honest question to get some support and context:

One of my top/favorite products!
30.04.2025 13:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, question the folks out there building/running their own businesses: when did it feel real to you? When could you say without doubt? With 100% conviction? Without any qualification?
Interested to hear everyone's stories.
A question that challenges me: "why don't you think your business is real"
The reality is, well, it's real. I have legal structure, clients, insurance, an tech stack. I don't (yet) have a logo or a website though I've iterated many times on ideas.
A new post at The Teardown!
Today I wrote about this app: BlueSky.
I'm not here for features. Are you? I'm here because you're here, my friends, contributors to my feed, professional connections and others.
Connectivity drives usage. Not features. Agree?

I thought we were better off using that chaos to illustrate our pitch forward from there. But, hey, I didn't get my way. Shit happens!
Interesting point. Big fan of @asmartbear.com.
In our industry, reminded me of a draft slide I once built showing interactions between players in reinsurance market. Was chaos.
CEO said "this sucks too messy" and I said "this is exactly what happens"
Awesome thread. Thank you for posting.
Follower of several folks from NYT graphics dept and think they consistently crush. For quite a while now.
I have an M1 MBP. Very intrigued by the M4 Mini. Also the new M4 Air
23.03.2025 16:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't see anyone in our spaces discussing:
1. Re/insurance portfolio mgmt. techniques
2. Navigating emotional/mental ups/downs
3. Assessing burn out, motivation, etc.
4. Reducing rumination, boosting experimentation, trying new things in one's career
5. Balancing life/career.
Am I just not aware?
Question to the cat-risk people out there (cc @kellyhereid.bsky.social):
We have industry conferences. White papers. Some marginally active LinkedIn groups.
Enormous supporter of canned!
And yes I know it looks kind of funky. Sometimes smells kind of funky. But it is easy for a weekday lunch salad or dinner protein addition.
There will likely be pre-emptive evacuation warnings/orders in/near recent SoCal burn areas (from Sep & Jan) due to high likelihood of intense downpours capable of producing *significant* debris flows. Debris flows can form very quickly, so it's wise to take these seriously.#CAwx
12.02.2025 16:47 β π 45 π 12 π¬ 2 π 0Talks about fire fatalities. Certainly worth talking about.
I'm more interested front-collision safety. How big is the blind spot in front of the car? How does that impact reaction timing and accident likelihood?
Comparison point: full-size SUVs with huge tall front areas/hoods and blind spots.
Tough that you have to drive. Not all commutes are equal though (even if they're identical in time).
Train commutes: long, yes, but can read, work, talk. It is a privilege.
But does RTO help you feel like part of the team? Here was my take today: open.substack.com/pub/theteard...
How do you answer this sort of question? You have a palette of 3-5 core marketable competencies.
Where do you feel you are strongest and weakest even if you do them all to some degree?
So, I sometimes corner myself with the choices provided by the question.
But I think it's really execution instead. Blending engineering, analytics, and strategy to get something done. That's execution.
And not sinking too deeply into one discipline's rabbit holes.
Someone (a prospect) asked me:
Do you think you are best at engineering, analytics, or strategy?
I said that my superpower is blending all three. But, if I had to pick 1 or 2, analytics and/or strategy.
These questions often come up. Folks don't easily digest jack-of-all-trades people.
I'm up for it!
10.01.2025 12:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If I understand correctly: project re: some sort of integration and instead you think their could be a software solution for it?
04.01.2025 15:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Love it. Always make an excuse to get outside!
04.01.2025 14:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Adjacent topic and interesting to hear. I am going to build a very simple web page in Notion and then tie my domain to that. I don't think I need more than that for now.
But I do want a robust and tight integration between Hubspot and ... what do people recommend?
People running small biz ops (you're founder, or you help):
What email / CRM integrations do you use?
I like HubSpot for free CRM.
Hubspot integrates free with Gmail. What about O365? FastMail? Others?
Current: Zoho Mail. But have to pay to integrate HubSpot
Looking at alternatives.
Thoughts?
Do you believe in these services? I'd like to. I'm skeptical.
02.01.2025 15:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I took a quick spin through Mozi, a new app from Ev Williams (Twitter co-founder). The app tries, I think, to help close friends better understand each other's plans and whereabouts.
But do we need that? How do you organize with close friends? What's not working?

Wrote another new post for The Teardown today.
These social platforms are great for connectivity and sorting answers to questions in short order. But they are also distractions and trigger a lot of unhealthy tendencies (for me).
Curious what you think too.

This hits home.
Was just talking to someone about a software idea that could use catastrophe risk models (i.e. used in insurance). Basically a consumer-focused risk tool.
But then: it seemed to complex, costly. Why not some simple data and logic and, boom, an explainable model!
