Holidays should be unifying, not divisive, and federal holidays particularly should unite Americans. Honoring all the Presidents, instead of only Washington, is divisive, not unitive, regardless of one's opinion of Trump or any other recent President.

Washington's good character, which is what the Framers of the Constitution created the presidency around, should inspire Americans, and the Washington's Birthday holiday should remind us of our founding ideals. Honoring all the Presidents, including scoundrels like Trump, would do the opposite.

The federal holiday of "Washington's Birthday" is usually called "Presidents' Day" by most States or in common parlance, but is intended to honor all Washington's contributions in the Revolutionary War and as a Founding Father, not only his presidency, or all the Presidents or the presidency itself.

Authoritarian Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is viewed by Trumpists, nativists and far-right isolationists as a model leader. He rules by decree, has made Hungary the poorest member of the EU, and his government is corrupt, but Orban is what "nationalists" envision for America.

It is unsurprising that Trump has interfered in Hungary's elections by endorsing the self-described "illiberal" far-right, anti-migrant, pro-Russian, corrupt Hungarian leader the European Union has identified as "autocratic" over center-right opposition leader Peter Magyar.

I happened to drive past a protest in my home city today against the Trump Administration's authoritarianism. I gave the protestors a thumb's up.

Americans should follow the money and find out what contractors are profiting off of ICE and CBP persecution, such as detention centers, etc., as well as what companies' goods or services are being used by them (e.g. weapons, uniforms, vehicles, hotels, etc.) to pressure them to stop.

Americans should educate themselves about federal search and seizure laws and about due process. They should demand that Congress conduct better oversight over ICE and CBP, and that States exercise their sovereignty more fully through legislation, criminal investigations or civil action.

Americans should educate themselves about migrants. Nativists do not understand the legal differences between immigrants, migrant workers and refugees seeking asylum based on credible fear of persecution, or about the different processes for visa overstays vs. irregular entries.

There is no need for a do-over internationally monitored presidential election in Venezuela, as center-right opposition candidate @EdmundoGU won in 2024 in a landslide, as the U.S. and others recognized, which the Carter Center, etc. monitored. The Socialist dictatorship would cheat again.

The oppressive theocratic Islamic Republic of Iran, the worst state sponsor of terrorism in the world, is an ally of Russia, like Iranian ally Syria was before the tyrannical Assad regime was overthrown a year ago. As part of the Axis of Evil, Iran materially aids Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The United States and its allies should be validating the Iranian people in their struggle for liberty and representative government by encouraging them to rise up, and to offer the promise of peaceful relations with a free Iran, as has occurred with Syria.

There are several longstanding conservative think tanks that have remained true to their principles to varying degrees, in addition to new ones like Mike Pence's Advancing American Freedom.

While the Heritage Foundation is losing staff because it has veered away from conservative principles and toward Trumpist nativist populism, Mike Pence's principled conservative rival think tank Advancing American Freedom has been gaining ex-Heritage staffers.
