An image framed with a black border, features an older, heavyset man with a white beard and glasses. He is wearing dark overalls over a shirt and is situated in a dimly lit, rustic wooden interior. The man is holding a long, pump-action shotgun, looking intently and a bit seriously toward the viewer's left. The text is superimposed over the image in white capital letters. The full text on the image reads: "It was only after I shot the third zombie that I started to wonder why they were carrying bags of candy and ringing my doorbell."

29.10.2025 17:16 — 👍 449 🔁 69 💬 6 📌 2An image overlaid with black text and featuring a repeating pattern of the chocolate candy Rolo. The text at the top reads, "PARENTS: PLEASE check your kid's halloween candy carefully!! just found this rolo hidden in my child's rolo hidden in my child's rolo hidden in my child's rolo life is hell." The image itself is a close-up photograph of three chocolate Rolo candies nested inside each other in a seemingly endless fractal loop. A large, intact, dark chocolate Rolo with a smooth, concave top sits to the left. To its right, an identical Rolo is cut open, revealing its golden, soft toffee center and its thick chocolate shell. Inside the toffee center, an image of a smaller, intact Rolo is embedded. A smaller embedded Rolo is also shown cut open, and inside its toffee center, an even smaller Rolo is visible, creating a dizzying, infinite chocolateception effect. The visual illustrates the chaotic and overwhelming feeling of constantly checking and re-checking a child's Halloween candy haul, amplified by the absurdity of the candy being hidden within itself. The focus is on the absurdity of the "hidden" dangers parents are constantly warned about around Halloween.

As stated above, my brain is simply not wired for the task.
I used to share a lot of art on other platforms (always crediting the artist if known, after searching for them if my source didn’t credit them), and “person reading a book” just wouldn’t get the feeling across. (more)
29.10.2025 13:12 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I get that, but if I shared an image of a man dressed as a frog there would almost certainly be a reason beyond “man”, “frog costume” and “crochet”, and that description likely would not impart what I was trying to share. (more)

A reminder that alt text is an absolute nightmare for some of us whose brains are not wired to produce it.
I’m too fungible for my social media platform. #2f4smp
28.10.2025 22:57 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The book cover for Julia Quinn's novel, When He Was Wicked, is dominated by a striking red and gold color palette. The background is a vibrant, deep red, covering most of the cover, and overlaid with a faint, textural pattern. The title and author's name are in white/pale gold text, with a subtle glow or shadow effect. At the very top, the text reads: "New York Times Bestselling Author of To Sir Phillip, With Love". Below this, in a smaller, elegant script, is the author's name: "Julia Quinn". The main title is prominently displayed in large, stacked text: "WHEN HE WAS WICKED". The lower third of the cover transitions to a red-tinted image of a pastoral scene, suggesting a setting for a historical romance. The scene is slightly obscured by the heavy red filter but appears to show: • A country estate or manor house in the background, possibly two stories tall. • Two horses and what appears to be a carriage or rider near a tree in the foreground. • Rolling fields or hills extend to the horizon. A small quote from Jill Barnett is placed in the bottom right corner of the image, appearing in white/pale gold text within a red-tinted speech bubble or box: ""Julia Quinn is truly our contemporary Jane Austen." - Jill Barnett." The entire cover is framed by a pale gold border on the right side. The overall effect is dramatic and characteristic of a Regency romance novel.

All because I took some good advice and published a book I though no one would ever read.

A close-up, cropped panel from a vintage comic book, depicting a tired-looking person with bright, messy blonde hair lying on what appears to be a pillow or bed. The person's face is partially obscured as they are lying on their side, facing downward and slightly away from the viewer. Their eyes are closed or heavily shadowed, and they are wearing a blue shirt or top. The art style features thick black outlines, halftone dots visible in the coloring, and a slightly grainy, aged appearance typical of mid-20th-century comics. Emerging from the darkness above the person's head is a speech bubble with a heavy black border and a white fill. The text inside the bubble, rendered in all capital letters, reads: "I KEEP MEANING TO BE A DIFFERENT PERSON..." The overall mood of the image is one of weariness, internal struggle, or procrastination regarding self-improvement. The dark background emphasizes the solitude and internal nature of the thought.
