Earth and Space Research (ESR) has a new look! Yesterday, we launched our redesigned website, including our new logo!
The new site highlights ESRβs long-standing commitment to open data access, while also introducing Spotlights on people and research topics.
See whatβs new at ESR: www.esr.org!

ESR scientists were thrilled to spend Earth Day teaching students and parents about the importance of the oceans at the Sky Valley Education Center's Earth Day event on April 22. Susan Howard and Jesse Anderson explained the concept of density and discussed our work as physical oceanographers.

There is substantial interannual and daily variability. Seasonal cycles are visible. Note: the poles are affected by very different Earth system processes/seasonality. I am using 5-day running mean data.
While all of this is happening to our scientific agencies, the current extent of sea ice globally remains at record low levels...

I love being able make science fun and share the cool work I do with kids (and adults!)

My. God.
These people are idiots.
I'm a researcher funded by NSF. The indirect funds that are being slashed to 15% at NIH, and probably NSF soon, are not some kind of markup or profit.
These pay for essential things like rent for a building to work in, lab space, salaries of people who manage benefits for the organization... 1/

Very much worth a watch if you have not yet seen the PMβs brief and moving speech to Americans and Canadians.

Well, we're learning more about what "harmful DEI" is. Inspiring Girls* Expeditions Alaska just lost a large chunk of their current funding. This is an outstanding free program that has brought great young women into earth science. Consider a donation, maybe? www.inspiringgirls.org/donate-uaf-e...
