I loved this show back when it was current, and it was honestly only ever seen as revolutionary levels of good because it was novel compared to all the rest of the sci-fi that was floating around at the time.

the better legacy for this show would be funding new, novel sci-fi instead of a reboot.

and it's weird that more stuff doesn't take that into account, look at the real apocalypses we've seen come and go - towns consumed by the hellfires of industry, poisoned by the eldritch horror of capitalism and greed - and find how communities come together rather than devolve into all-against-all.

"urban decay" and "suburban decay" are just synonyms for the conditions of your average post-apocalyptic setting.
